Ozobots are small robots that allow students to program them using multiple methods. The first is using a series of colors and lines to represent the codes. The robots use optical sensors to read the lines and follow the color coded instructions. When they progress to the next level the robots can be programmed using snap together codes that are sent to the robot. The robot will then act out the codes. There are a lot of challenging games and activities that can be played once the basic codes are learned. Ozobots are educational and motivating, especially for students who love technology, but don't have much access outside the classroom. I plan to start using the Ozobots with my older grades. The students will be able to create and navigate maps with their robots similar to Mrs. Mundt's Mapping & Navigating project on Donors Choose. They will also learn to program them to complete specific tasks using their chromebooks. I hope that by the end of the year the students will be able to use basic coding commands to complete challenges, build their own maps and invent their own projects.
