  • iPads for i-Mazing Students

    Funded Oct 22, 2012

I would like to thank you for your kindness and generosity in helping with my class project. My students have already been working on higher order thinking projects by engaging in a program called "Puppet Pals". This program lets the students process information and teach the material without the fear of stage fright. We will next be using "Show Me" a program that enables each student to teach using an electronic whiteboard.

These ipads are amazing and are going to help my students excel to a new level of learning. I would like to thank you again for all the kind thoughts and deeds that you have gone through to help my students and myself.

Please continue to look for future projects that we put forth to facilitate the education of the future leaders of America.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Connell

  • Listening to Student Needs

    Funded May 7, 2012

Thank you for all that you've done for my students. We are using the pencil sharpener and the ipad nano. My students are able to listen to books online. We are also able to better use out time with a top notch pencil sharpener that is quick and doesn't make as much noise as the manual ones. My students are not wasting time needing to sharpen a regular or colored pencil and can instead focus on learning.

Your donations have been blessing and we will always appreciate that effort and sacrifice that you have made for the young people.

My students and I thank you again and have a blessed day!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Connell

  • A Flex Cam Gives Us Some Flexible Learning

    Funded May 7, 2012

I would like to thank you for your generosity last spring. We now have a flex camera that we can view student work that is written or drawn or in a notebook or workbook. I can do math problems or show the students work on a map. This really helps out when the Internet is down. I have one young lady that is in a wheelchair and she has come out of her shell to show others her work.

This investment in our future is truly inspiring and I want to thank you again for all that you do.

My students send their thanks and I would like to thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Connell

  • Ipad Apple TV

    Funded May 7, 2012

I would like to express my personal thanks for the generosity for your contributions last spring. We are currently using your gift and other donations to give my class a chance to look at an ipad through our class overhead projector.

The students are interacting with it and using our school's wifi network to link what students are doing at their desk and what the whole class can see. This is a wonderful motivating tool that shows the students that their work is valued and important. The work they do has an impact on others- helping and showing other people what is being done right or wrong.

Thank you again and have a very blessed day!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Connell

  • iPads for iMazing Projects

    Funded Mar 15, 2012

First of all, let me say: Thank you. Thank you for your tireless support of your child in Mr. Connell's class. Through fundraisers, parent-teacher meetings, school sports, after-school activities, and everything else that happens in the course of a school year, you have shown your commitment to giving your child the best possible education. As we partner with you here at our school for the education of your child, I want you to know, that your commitment does not go unnoticed.

As you know, our classroom was able to raise money for 12 ipads that now will be used by teachers and students in our school.

We were able to raise all the money we needed for the project- thanks to you!

"Many hands make light work," so the saying goes, and each parent had a hand in helping our class – either by donating or asking a business they know or work for to donate.

Our classrooms are transforming teaching and learning, changing the classroom culture (making it more interactive and creative) and closing the digital divide. There is an interest and excitement in our classrooms that didn't exist before. Our team of teachers is changing the way we think about teaching and learning. Teachers and students are incorporating elements of movies (drama), documentaries, multi-player role playing games, news casting, encyclopedias, dictionaries, language translators and more into lessons. With these ipads- the teachers are functioning as mentors who encourage students to develop critical thinking skills and apply them to life. These ipads are keeping children on task. The teachers will work with the students and they'll set goals for the students to select them and work on them and then once they've completed their goals they get new goals to work on from the recommendation of the teacher. We have already noticed that due to these ipads we are using less time spent teaching lessons since students know and have mastered the material when they come to class.

I want to end this letter by thanking you again. We deeply appreciate your dedication to your child and our school.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Connell

As you know, our classroom was able to raise money for a set of magazines that now belong to each child- not just a class set. This type of expenditure was not covered by the school. The staff wanted to supplement the material that we have with day-to-day real-life stories.

My students are from a rural, southern area of Georgia. We are a Federal Title 1 school - meaning that more than 50% of the students that we serve are classified in poverty, and over 1/3 of our students are minority. It is not unusual for a student to let me know that he or she has never been outside of the county. Many times, the only window my students have to the outside world is in my classroom. We are academically diverse with students of all levels working together and helping each other.
