  • Resiliency Graduation Stoles and Cords for Homeless Seniors

    Funded May 10, 2024

I wanted to take a moment to share just how much your generous support for the resiliency cords and stoles has meant to our graduating students, especially those who have faced homelessness. These aren't just graduation accessories; they're symbols of their hard work and determination. When we told the students they would be receiving these cords, their excitement was contagious. For many of them, it's a special acknowledgment of the challenges they've overcome to reach this important day.

Thanks to you, our students feel recognized and valued, and they're stepping into their graduation with a newfound sense of pride and achievement. These cords and stoles will make their big day even more memorable and serve as a constant reminder of their strength as they head off to college. • School Supplies Needed for College Resource Center

    Funded Jun 13, 2024

Securing funding for our college resource center has been a game-changer for my students from disadvantaged communities. With access to the necessary supplies, they can now apply for scholarships and colleges with the confidence that their applications will stand out. The worry of lacking resources is no longer a barrier. Additionally, I was able to create vibrant and informative newsletters, ensuring that students are aware of every opportunity available to help them attend college debt-free. • Period Products For Female Students Who Are In Need

    Funded Mar 13, 2024

Thanks to the generous donation of period products, students who previously struggled to afford these essentials now have the resources they need to feel confident and comfortable at school. By setting up multiple distribution sites throughout the campus, we made it easier for students to access what they need without having to trek all the way to the front of the school. This convenience means they can quickly grab what they need and get back to class without missing valuable learning time. The students have expressed their gratitude, and it's heartwarming to see how such a simple change can make a big difference in their daily lives.”

  • Classroom Food Pantry is Needed for Hungry Learners

    Funded Mar 7, 2024

Thank you so much for donating to our class project. This week, our students are going on a college tour specifically designed for those who identify as homeless or unaccompanied youth. Our first stop is Tallahassee, Florida, which is quite far away. To ensure the students are not too hungry during their bus ride before lunch break, I prepared snack bags for them. Unfortunately, because the individual packages were not labeled, I couldn't make additional snack bags as planned. However, I was still able to set up a small pantry for the hungry learners. These students often come and visit me to work on their college applications, scholarships, and FAFSA forms. Having snacks available has helped them stay focused on their post-secondary goals instead of their growling stomachs.

Once again, thank you for your generous donation to our class project. It has had a significant impact on our students' ability to stay focused.”

  • Hygiene Kits Needed for Homeless Youth in Our School Community

    Funded Feb 23, 2024

The students at Homestead Senior High School were incredibly engaged and receptive during the lesson on youth homelessness. Their enthusiasm was evident as they eagerly participated in assembling hygiene bags to be shared with the school's pantry and the district's parent resource center for homeless and unaccompanied youth. The Project UP-START office expressed deep gratitude for the resources, as they frequently face shortages of toiletries. Thank you for funding our project, which not only helped my students grasp the importance of giving back but also made a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.”

  • Snacks for Homeless Youth: Nourishing Tomorrow's Leaders Today

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Providing snacks to students has been a game-changer in terms of their ability to focus and excel in their schoolwork. It is unfortunate that many students face a lack of food options and snacks at school, which can negatively impact their energy levels, concentration, and overall well-being. However, by offering snacks to your students, you have taken an important step towards addressing this issue and creating a more conducive learning environment.

First and foremost, snacks provide a much-needed boost of energy to students throughout the day. When students are hungry, their ability to concentrate and retain information is severely compromised. By offering snacks, you are ensuring that their nutritional needs are met, preventing hunger from becoming a distraction. This consistent supply of energy helps students maintain focus, engage in discussions, and participate actively in their learning.

Moreover, snacks also serve as a source of motivation and reward for students. Knowing that they have access to delicious and nutritious snacks creates a positive incentive for them to stay on task and complete their work. It encourages them to work towards goals and deadlines, as they look forward to the satisfying break of enjoying a snack. This not only fosters a sense of accomplishment but also reinforces the idea that hard work is recognized and rewarded.

In addition to the physical benefits, providing snacks also has a positive impact on the emotional well-being of students. By offering a variety of snacks, you are not only addressing their hunger but also catering to their individual preferences and dietary needs. This inclusivity promotes a sense of belonging and ensures that no student feels left out or disadvantaged due to dietary restrictions or allergies. It creates an environment where students feel valued, cared for, and supported, which in turn enhances their overall focus and productivity.

Lastly, offering snacks can also foster a sense of community and collaboration among students. Snack time becomes an opportunity for socialization and bonding, as students gather together to enjoy their treats. This camaraderie can have a significant impact on their overall happiness and motivation, ultimately contributing to a more positive and productive learning environment.

Providing snacks to your students has proven to be a valuable strategy for improving their focus and productivity in school. By addressing the lack of food options and snacks, you have created an environment that supports their nutritional needs, enhances their concentration, and promotes their emotional well-being. This simple yet impactful gesture not only helps students succeed academically but also creates a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere that they can thrive in.”

The students that are present at my school are students who are raised in foster homes, live in low socio-economic households, and lack parental support. Many of them are also students who are displaced from Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands due to Hurricane Maria. However, my students are very driven and are always seeking ways to improve their learning and seeking ways to excel in all areas of academics. My school is focused on increasing the use of technology and catering to the diverse learning and teaching styles that are present on our campus. The school is always exploring ways to remove any technology and instructional obstacles that may be present in classrooms. Doing so will assist students in getting acclimated to using technology, which could boaster students' opportunities of being competitive in a global market.
