Horizon After Harvey
Funded Nov 10, 2017It almost seemed like a weird reality show, the students were just starting to get situated and our ILTexas team began to deal with the common struggles of a new term. Especially a school on its 2nd year active! Parents, students, and staff were feeling excited to get started and then BAM. We down in Texas really learned what it meant to be a family and work together. It is now March and we still have families dealing with Hurricane Harvey aftermath, fortunately we got a very large donation from Staples to support the Art Department. Art is one the tools used to help with anxiety, stress, and hardship.
With the help of ILT family and good hearted companies like Staples, the Art Department could navigate these troubled times with confidence. When a student puts that pencil on paper, and works on a project for a month, then is able to observe it be a part of the school boards...you can imagine their confidence soaring! This is why I went a little extra and chose DonorsChoose to help with my funding.
The students were so grateful and excited to see those big boxes coming in, they even helped me organize and unpack! We sketched, traced, colored, and glued.
From a student eager to get onto the next project "I hope you are proud of us as much as we are proud of you!"”
With gratitude,

Cut Above The Rest
Funded Dec 11, 2017ILTexas is very excited to use our technology for our art room. Dallas district office complimented the Art Department on our bulletin board work. It was made possible by donations through Donors Choose. The lamentation machine helps protect the students work, the sharpie labels allow their work to have names for accreditation, and the black paper allows for a good background so colors can pop.
We recently were a part of the 1st Annual African American Heritage Assembly and used our resources to present some posters for decorations. The students felt very proud to have their work displayed in such a professional manner.
The 5th graders now know how to use the lamination machine and understand concepts of matting their work for future displays or competitions.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Calero
This classroom project was brought to life by Someone who cares about Texas and one other donor.
