Cells are so cool, but so hard for students to grasp the size and scale of the cellular structures. Even when looking through a microscope, looking at cells clearly is difficult. However, imagine having a tool that allowed the entire class to analyze cells through a microscope simultaneously. The portable document camera does just that. It features the ability to attach to a microscope for students or the teacher to display and share information with the entire class. Additionally, the document camera paired with the microscope enables students with visual impairments to easily participate in cell study, where previously difficult. Cellular models amplify the study of cells by making them hands on and tangible for the students. These models will be used for students to study and analyze, compare and contrast. Students might use them as an initial exploration as well as a tool to later explain the parts of the cells and their function. The magnetic cells will serve as a way for the students to practice their cellular structure understanding. We will further look at viruses using the virus model in order to understand a real-world topic that affects all humans and especially those students who choose to study in the medical field.
