4th & Goal: We’re Going For It!
Funded Sep 26, 2019Our football teams were thrilled to have their new equipment. When I announced that the project had been funded the students were ecstatic. They had grown tired of using the old PE equipment and were happy to have some equipment meant just for them. These teams were able to practice more effectively with equipment that more adequately met their needs.
The teams that benefited from the project showed tremendous progress throughout their football season. Our two teams each reached their respective playoffs with one of our teams winning the championship after an undefeated season. It was an impressive demonstration by our student-athletes and this project played a role in that success.
My current projects are focused on building an program at our newest campus. Our charter is expanding and opening a new school in August and I am striving to do what I can on DonorsChoose to build up an adequate inventory for the incoming student-athletes that will be participating at that campus. I look forward to the generosity of donors like you helping to build a new school's athletic program.”

Funded Sep 1, 2019I have been teaching elementary school students for close to six years at this campus and we've never had the equipment or capacity to have a pee-wee football team for our youngest students. The inventory of football equipment we have at our campus is designed for much larger students. This project was such a blessing for our youngest students.
When the students saw that there was equipment that actually fit in their hand and wasn't hard-as-a-rock they were very excited. One exceptionally small 2nd Grade student remarked "these footballs are small like us! This equipment will lay the foundation for future teams and allow students to cultivate an interest in football at an early age - which is crucial to success and mastery.
My next endeavors on DonorsChoose will be focused on expanding our equipment inventory to support a brand-new campus opening this August. Our school will be adding an additional campus and I am proud to be a supporter of its PE and athletic programs. I appreciate your support for my projects and my students. Thank you!”

Funded Dec 2, 2019I am so happy to announce that the project has been fully funded! When I received word of this news I told the class I was teaching and they were ecstatic. You have done a wonderful thing for my students and my school. Thank you so much for your generosity.”

Funded Dec 5, 2018Thank you so much for your kindness! I have been very happy with our new materials. We have been including our colorful dice in many different activities for P.E. We have used them as a random way to determine our warm ups, as a method to include mathematics into our elective courses, and as part of some of our favorite games. We played a version of capture the flag which used bean bags instead of a physical banner. Student teams were required to use the dice to determine the number of beans bags an individual could steal as well as the number of prisoners each team was allowed to guard on the field. Using these dice have had an immediate impact on our classroom.
My students were excited to see new materials and were even more animated as we started using them with frequency. I think students grow tired of the same games very quickly and these dice have helped me create new and challenging ways to participate in P.E.
I thank you for your generosity. I hope to have a new project posted very soon that will provide my students with more new and interesting equipment to further their mastery of fitness and physical activity. Thank you!”

Mr. Hicks
Feel the Burn Without Getting Burned
Funded May 11, 2018We didn't forget about you! We had quite the delay in using our equipment as our initial purpose - shielding our summer athletes from the Nevada sun - never came to fruition as our sports teams elected to forgo summer practices. Our school put the materials to good use throughout the school year though. We used the materials to provide shade to PE students on hot, September days early in the year and we have recently been using them in as we approach the Summer months. Students absolutely love having a bit of rest in the shade, especially my young 1st Grade classes in the afternoon.
Many of my students have just come to accept that our PE class is outdoors and when it's hot, there's just not much we can do about that. The students were ecstatic when they realized the materials were out there for them to use. "Can we play games under these?" "This is the best idea you've ever had!" "We should do this everyday!" are just some of the responses I heard on the first few days we used the materials.
I am grateful that we have these materials to help my classes. I am grateful for your generosity in providing my students with something that they would never have without your donation. It really made a big difference. Thank you!”

Funded Dec 7, 2018I am so happy to have these new dodgeballs! We use our dodgeballs quite a bit so they often get beat up and deteriorate over time. My students were thrilled to see bright, brand-new dodgeballs out on the field for our games. They noticed the new dodgeballs immediately. Some of my students remarked, "look at how much better these ones are?" and "How many new ones did we get?" I was proud to tell them that it wasn't their coach that had gotten these dodgeballs for them, it was some very kind strangers who had donated them.
I was especially moved when it was 'Take Your Child to Work Day' at my school. I brought my young daughter along with me and we played a less-intense version of our free-for-all dodgeball game. Seeing my daughter play with my students using the equipment my donors so graciously donated was one of my favorite memories of this school year.
We plan on utilizing these dodgeballs as part of our upcoming Field Day festivities. Dodgeball will continue to be a student-favorite in my PE class and with these new dodgeballs, we can keep those traditions going. I thank you for your generosity and for bringing this much-needed equipment to my school.”

iCan Achieve More If iHave What iNeed
Funded Jul 2, 2018I must thank you for your contribution to our young students' education. In today's high-tech world, too many of our young children are exposed to technology only to use it for games and entertainment. These children are not exposed to wide array of educational opportunities that exist. Fortunately, our school places an emphasis on blended learning - a practice that encourages students to pursue education online and at home. We start these students on blended learning programs as early as Preschool and this donation has make that process easier for many different students.
The students that participate in our after school program are especially excited to have this type of technology available to them. They are frequently requesting more time on the tablets in order to pass more lessons, achieve higher scores, and continue their learning adventure.
Thank you for helping to make all of that possible. Thank you!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Hicks
Practice Makes Perfect: Part II
Funded Mar 27, 2018This additional equipment is exactly what we needed. The young student-athletes at my school have started their basketball season and they are practicing with the basketballs that fits their level of play. Several students have already noticed how much easier it is to dribble the basketballs, with one student-athlete saying, "why were we using the other ones?"
My basketball players are excited to continue their progress with this equipment and I am grateful they will finally be able to practice with the basketballs that they will play with in their games. They are so happy to have them and have already put them to great use. Thank you again for your generosity and kindness.
Our basketball teams are growing and I will soon have another active project on DonorsChooose that will request more authentic basketballs to prepare my teams for their games. These projects will continue to reach over 75 students for years to come. We are so thrilled that you helped us reach our goal! Thank you.”

Funded Nov 15, 2017It has been a tremendous school year and I must thank you for that! We have put your donations to good use as we've created new games and found innovative ways to use the equipment we received from you. We have played jump rope games, finished soccer challenges and one of my students even came up with a zany capture the flag / dodgeball mash-up that has been a lot of fun to play with all my students. All of this was made easy because you were so generous to our students. I thank you for your kindness and for thinking of us.
Right now our school year is coming to a close. However, just last month my students were inspired by the recent Avengers movie and we took your equipment and invented a new game! We currently have a project listed on DonorsChoose to fill in the gaps for a few select pieces of equipment to have everything we need but we are confident we'll be 100% ready to play come August. Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness.”

Funded Feb 7, 2018My students are thrilled about their Frisbee golf targets! We used them as a special sneak preview for our school's Field Day festivities and it generated a huge level of interest from our students. We can finally play Frisbee Golf the way it was meant to be played. One fourth grade student got a hole-in-one on their first ever attempt and they were so excited! It's so much better than using our hula hoop targets.
When they first saw these materials, they were confused. They had no idea what they were as nearly every student was seeing them for the first time. Once they understood the purpose and way they were used, the students were so happy to be playing our "new" version of Frisbee Golf.
Thank you for your donation. I currently have projects on DonorsChoose that will be crucial to some new games for my students as well as a professional development project that I'm very hopeful about. Your donation has improved the quality of our program. I thank you for that.”
