• A Do-It-Yourself "Smart" Board

  Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our project. With your support, I was able to transform our traditional whiteboard into an interactive learning space using a projector and document camera. It has had a significant impact on how my students engage with lessons and each other.

  With this equipment, I can also project lessons onto their screens in real-time. It's amazing to see how they can follow a lesson in person while simultaneously viewing the work being done on their devices. Your care and donations have transformed how lessons can be presented, and it has been an enjoyable experience for everyone.”

• Earbuds! Lots of Them!

  These earbuds have been helpful to all my students. At first, we aimed was to use them as replacements for students who did not have an ear piece that day. I distributed a little under a bag's worth of them on the first month. After a while, I realized that the students preferred these small ones over the nicer headphones because these packed nicely into their desk. Huge success! After receiving these, we never went a day without having the ability to listen to audio independently. Thank you. My students thank you too.”

• Book Series / Series De Libros

  The books donated sparked an interest in my classroom. The students dove into the books once they became available to them. They were excited to pick one up, finish it, and move on to the next. Some students would have to wait before reading their next book because suddenly there was a queue for the popular books.

  My Spanish readers were able to read books for entertainment. They found it refreshing since most of their reading ends up being content heavy books in English. Now the books were in their language and highly approachable. Thank you for providing them this opportunity to have fun.”

• Let's Play Board Games; It's Too Cold Out

  Funded May 24, 2020

  Thank you for funding this project. While board games are not allowed to be used because of the need for players' proximity, the class has enjoyed two of the games that came in the donation. We were able to figure out how to have fun playing the games while remaining safely distanced and refraining from sharing game pieces.

  One of the games allows students to work together, use deductive reasoning, and communicate their answers and give explanations. It's because to play Insider, students have to ask logical yes or no questions and listen to what has already been said to discover the hidden word. Then they have to use their observations during the game to uncover the insider. This has allowed a total of about 40 students to feel comfortable in school, even with the stresses of COVID-19.

  They cannot get enough of Insider. They love the game and would ask to play it every week. However, we figured out a way to play Codenames while being safe. We have been able to display the board on the SmartBoard and work together as teams to win the game. This game was difficult at first but after playing for a while, my students have learned how their classmates think and used that information to win some rounds. These games have translated well into academics because students feel more comfortable participating, willing to make mistakes, and learning from each other.
