Funded May 24, 2020Thank you for funding this project. While board games are not allowed to be used because of the need for players' proximity, the class has enjoyed two of the games that came in the donation. We were able to figure out how to have fun playing the games while remaining safely distanced and refraining from sharing game pieces.
One of the games allows students to work together, use deductive reasoning, and communicate their answers and give explanations. It's because to play Insider, students have to ask logical yes or no questions and listen to what has already been said to discover the hidden word. Then they have to use their observations during the game to uncover the insider. This has allowed a total of about 40 students to feel comfortable in school, even with the stresses of COVID-19.
They cannot get enough of Insider. They love the game and would ask to play it every week. However, we figured out a way to play Codenames while being safe. We have been able to display the board on the SmartBoard and work together as teams to win the game. This game was difficult at first but after playing for a while, my students have learned how their classmates think and used that information to win some rounds. These games have translated well into academics because students feel more comfortable participating, willing to make mistakes, and learning from each other. Thank you again for your funding and I hope that you and your loved ones stay safe.”
With gratitude,
