  • Charged Up and Ready to Go!

    Funded Jul 3, 2021

Starting the school year off right, with additional technology like these chargers, is incredibly helpful. All of our classrooms will have technology to use, and we'll have spare devices for any students who may have to go virtual. Thank you for the donations and making sure our kiddos have a great beginning to their school year.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. McDonald

  • Who We Are

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

I am so grateful for your donations, and to start the school year with books the kids adore! It is exciting to be able to start the school year with your support. We have a lot of hard work to do, but these supplies will help keep the students engaged and motivated to do their best.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. McDonald

  • Concrete to Abstract with Chromebooks.

    Funded Dec 1, 2018

Your generous donations have had an immediate impact on our classroom. These Chromebooks have given access to our students to resources the district provides. Our students have used this technology to record their real-world observations through Science Experimentation, to reinforce their learning in the STEM areas through practice with engaging software platforms, and to support them through individualized learning plans. They have also investigated their local and global communities through our IB Exhibition program with this technology.

Your donations have enabled students with no access to more than a cell phone and data plan to engage with programs available to others throughout the district. The Chromebooks have helped the students participate in guided research, and supported the students who need additional help in their academic pursuits. In short, it has provided opportunities to students who have not had access to these tools at home or school and inspired an interest in technology specifically, and their world in general.”

  • Mathematical Mindset

    Funded Jul 27, 2018

Thank you for your generous donations which allowed me to study how students learn math. These courses helped me understand how we all learn Math, reducing my own anxiety about the subject, and created a sense of enthusiasm I previously did not have for it.

The courses engaged me as a learner, and inspired a number of lessons the students found engaging. Students ask for more practice with concepts they struggle with, even requesting homework! The students are excited to start the day with Math and revisit the concepts we study in their free time.

Thank you again for your support of our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. McDonald

  • Chromebooks in the Classroom

    Funded Apr 19, 2018

The Chromebooks really made a difference in our students' learning at the end of the school year. Students used the Chromebooks and Google Apps to research topics of interest to them and create projects that demonstrated their understanding of concepts like understanding and creating Memes, how people use social media for good and bad, how neighbors came together to help each other in natural disasters. The technology also helped us prepare for the State Science test by playing team trivia reviewing concepts through the App Kahoot! We also played games reviewing figurative language in Reading, and Sportsmanship in Social Studies (in addition to the History Trivia we played). All the while, students learned keyboard shortcuts and how to use programs they will use in their future academic and professional careers. Thank you so much for your donation!”

  • Lines of Inquiry, Lifetime of Literacy

    Funded Oct 26, 2017

Thanks to your generosity, the students are engaged in their reading, discovering interesting places to one day visit, the famous and infamous, and practicing their Reading skills using the supplies you provided. Alberto has decided that he'd like to visit Egypt after learning more about King Tut, and Oliver has learned even more about India on his own after reading about the Taj Mahal.

Our skills lessons would not be the same without the sticky backed chart paper, allowing us to work on our ideas, anywhere we can. Moving anchor charts with key skills throughout the room, as the students demonstrate their understanding and usage of those skills on their own, is satisfying as a teacher.

Thank you again, for your thoughtful donations. They have provided supplies our school would otherwise have to provide, allowing even more teachers access to supplies that may have run out by now.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. McDonald

  • 21st Century Skills Building

    Funded Apr 14, 2017

Thanks to your generous support, last year's 5th Graders had a wonderful IB Exhibition show! They were excited to share their findings with their schoolmates, parents, and community. The students developed their research skills using the projector and the color printer. They showed their projects to the entire school, working on their presentation skills, and were the most engaged they had been all year, which is virtually unheard of for fifth graders in May!

Thank you for the donation, and the help it has provided those students, and will provide this year's 5th Grade students as well. They are very excited to know they will be conducting similar research projects, guided by their interests, this year, with materials that they can help them fully realize their vision.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. McDonald

  • Lovers of Literacy!

    Funded Oct 13, 2015

The successful funding of "Lovers of Literacy" has helped engage all students in practicing great reading skills. The students who have benefited the most are the ones who had little to no interest in reading at the beginning of the school year. Using these board games to interest them in reading has been a great success! To watch their eagerness to play board games grow into reading on their own has been a great joy this year. Your generous donation has helped improve the reading skills and habits of our class!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. McDonald

  • A Series of Unfortunate Events, Fortunately

    Funded Jun 7, 2015

As is sometimes the case, Amazon did not have enough copies of "A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning", but if the Baudelaire Orphans, the heroes of our novel have taught us anything, it is how to make the best of a bad situation. Instead of the novel study, our class has used the donations for Scholastic News Magazine, a weekly reader full of colorful articles that help the students master reading skills necessary for success.

These magazines offer the students an opportunity to explore their world. We've used the resource to learn more about current and historical events, to practice Social Studies skills, and practice vocabulary acquisition. This resource captures the students' attention, and keeps them engaged while learning.

We are still planning to study the Baudelaires and the unfortunate events that befall them, using Violet's inventiveness, Klaus's love of books, and Sunny's creativity, and the help of the resources that were available. But for now, we can make the best of a bad situation and practice our nonfiction reading skills with the Scholastic News Magazine, thanks to your generous donations!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. McDonald

  • Full Steam Ahead!

    Funded Dec 16, 2014

Thank you very much for the donations to our classroom! The students have enjoyed working with the donated art supplies. Through activities like painting their neighborhoods, modeling shapes and animals through clay and listening to music that inspires creativity while they work with technology, students who are difficult to reach became engaged with subjects they often find difficult to understand. By approaching these subjects in a way that appeals to their different learning styles with these supplies, students discover that they do like the sciences and math, and show a better understanding than when we use just pencil and paper.

Thank you again for your support, it means so much to our class!”
