  • Don't Let Our Robots Escape!

    Funded Jan 2, 2018

Thank you so much for this escape robot and programming computer. My students have been putting them together and have been building the mazes for the robots to drive around. We are very excited to continue working with these robots throughout the next few weeks.

Last night we practiced the breakout room and it was a success. The students were able to breakout and solve the maze within the 45 minute time slot. We need to change a few things, make a couple of the questions harder, and add additional room in part of the maze, but for the most part we considered it a success.

The students love these escape robots and are having a fantastic time using them. We will be bringing them down to the elementary schools soon.”

  • FIRST Mid-Atlantic Robotics Powers Up the Championship (Part 1)

    Funded Dec 14, 2017

Kickoff is behind us and we found out about the new game. For the FIRST PowerUp game we have to collect these large yellow cubes, push them into an exchange, put them into a 2 ft high switch, or place them on the 7 ft high scale. We also need to climb at the end, hold another robot up in the air, and defend our turf. This is very exciting and the students have been building a robot and working on their strategy. We are considering using vacuum cups to hold the cubes. That would be a first for us. We are also working on an intake that has wheels which will suck in the cube and orient them properly.

We can't thank you enough for all of your support of the FIRST Mid-Atlantic Robotics Team 3314 - The Mechanical Mustangs. We are so very proud of everything that we have accomplished so far and can't wait for the remainder of our season.”

  • Let's Visit Some Robots!

    Funded Nov 22, 2017

The team has been visiting many different elementary schools in the month of December. We have seen well over 500 students in the last few weeks during the Hour of Code. We brought the robot and have been showing the students Hour of Code and the students have been doing either Light Bot, Angry Birds program Maze or Pirate Plunder. They have been having a great time. I have included photographs that we took on our new camera and used the new SD card we received in this project. The team is so thankful that we have our own SD cards and cameras and we will be taking them on our trip.

Thank you so much for helping us have all of these wonderful parent nights at our elementary schools and for the SD cards so we can document them.”

  • STEAM Shirts

    Funded Nov 2, 2017

Thank you so much for funding the cost of our team shirts. We were able to get uniform shirts for all of our high school team members as well as our middle school junior varsity robotics team members as well.

The students had a great time wearing their uniform shirt at the FIRST LEGO League competition last weekend. The middle school teams were competing and the high school team was running the entire tournament. Their eyes lit up and it was so great when they saw their new uniform shirts. The middle school teams really made us proud.

These shirts will be worn again and again. The high school team is competing in NJ, PA, CT, and OH this season. Hopefully we will make it to the world championship in MI.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.”

  • Books Are BlackBeard's Treasure

    Funded Oct 20, 2017

We want to thank you so much for these pirate books. We hosted the most amazing pirate themed math night at School 9 last week and we had 8 different tables set up and these books were one of the themed tables. The robotics team attended and showed off their robot. The other robotics students were in charge of the different math tables and worked with the 64 students who attended.

This was such a positive experience for both my team and the elementary students. My team prepped ahead of time using this pirate math text to have the students figure out the volume of the pirate ship and use maps to figure out the distance from island to island. Students also walked the plank.

Thank you so very much for funding this project. These books inspired so many young people. We were able to give every student a pirate book when they went home because of this group of projects. We are very grateful for your support.”

  • Pirates Read More Than Treasure Maps!

    Funded Oct 20, 2017

These books were given out to students at our Family Pirate Math Night last week. Each student was able to take a book home to read that was grade level appropriate. Some of the books we are putting in our library so every students has the chance to read them.

The evening was a great success. Over 65 students from grades 3-5 participated and learned Math skills, played with the high school robot, and had Pirate themed reading activities. We had a fantastic time watching them walk the plank! As they were leaving, we also gave them pirate lollipops, keychains, pencils, and activity sheets to practice mathematics at home.

We are so grateful for your support of this project and all of these books. We could not have sent a book home to every student without you and the amazing Book Match. Thank you from all of us.”

  • FIRST® LEGO® League: Drink in the HydroDynamics!

    Funded Sep 2, 2017

Working with the middle and elementary school students is such an incredible opportunity. My team has been so blessed to help them learn all about the different areas of robotics and especially the environmental impact of water. They have been studying other topics and are interested in seeing the film Flint next.

Being a part of the FLL program as either a student or a mentor is a great way to spend the fall as a student. They feel as if they are a part of something greater. The competition is going well and they are truly ready to aspire to be the best they can be.

The students are going to continue to work on their projects and can't wait to gain more insight into the robotics and environmental science world.”

  • SAT Prep For ALL!

    Funded Oct 12, 2017

Here is the group of students that was able to work using your SAT prep class. The first photograph is the core group of seniors on the team and then the other groups of students that were using the program. These pictures represent all of the students either doing the class on their Chromebooks or who did the course at home.

My four seniors T. S. and R. said that this course was amazing and it was super simple to use. They said "what a cool way to practice for the SAT's" and "It's pretty savage".

The students increased their scores by a significant amount. Thank you so very much for supporting my team and school and for helping them get better SAT scores.”

  • Be a Robotics Professional

    Funded Sep 12, 2017

My students have just begun creating professional projects and practiced for the first time last week. They learned how to use this clicker and how to build a power point that is not too complicated. They were able to do their presentations in a Ted Talk style, with only pictures or a very few amount of words on each slide.

They were excited that these clickers were able to help them get through their presentation faster and more efficiently. They would pass the clicker onto their teammate and say "Now xyz will discuss abc123 topic."

It made them truly feel as if they were giving a professional presentation. Thank you so very much.”

  • Summertime Students Still Need Snacks

    Funded Jul 13, 2017

Thank you so much for these granola bars and breakfast foods. My students have been eating them both during the summer and throughout the fall. Each day, if they haven't had breakfast, we are able to have them come into the classroom and get a snack. It is so very helpful for them to be working on a full stomach. When you are worried about your next meal, you can't really worry about schoolwork. Thank you for making this possible.

My students are thankful for your support. Their favorite item was the breakfast squares. None of them had ever had one before and they liked the apple cinnamon one the best. The apple chips were a treat and they said that they liked them even more than real apples.”
