  • Homeless Bus Meals

    Funded Sep 4, 2018

Thank you for supplying us with the food to bring to the homeless bus. Our students have created over 300 meals over the last few weeks to give out to these wonderful individuals. The students have been making sandwiches, creating lunch boxes, and delivering them throughout our local area to the homeless population. They also sold some additional snacks to buy meat and cheese to put into the lunches. They learned how to make food that is healthy on a budget and they enjoyed interacting with the adults and other schools. Thank you so much for helping to make this a success.”

  • Ozobots Are Oh So Fantastic for Our Ladies in STEM

    Funded Oct 11, 2018

We would love to thank the Craig Newmark Foundation for these ozobots! We were able to show 1500 students [yes, fifteen hundred] how to use ozobots. We had both all female STEM nights and co-ed STEM nights throughout the fall. We are also going to lone out these ozobots to the other elementary school teachers throughout the district to use in their classes.

The young ladies were so excited to learn how to code and my high school robotics team leads were able to show so many students about these amazing STEM activities. They put in over 450 community service hours in the fall [the 30 young ladies on the team] and we are incredibly grateful for your support to our program. We couldn't have done it without you.”

  • Help Us Practice Our Skills

    Funded Apr 18, 2018

Spring Sports are in full swing and the students have been excited to attend all of their practices and go to their games. Our softball team is 8:1 but ladies lacrosse has had a difficult season [2:4]. Our ladies track and field won the Passaic county title. Here are the stats:

"While Clifton ran away with the team title thanks to a well-rounded effort, senior A.M. and sophomore A. D. combined to score 58 points. M. won the 100 hurdles in 15.18, the long jump with a 16-6 1/2 while finishing third in the 200 and fourth in 200. D. tripled in the distance events with two wins in the 1,600 (5:14.33) and 3,200 (11:38.67) to go with a second-place finish in the 800 (2:21.80). Two underclassmen — sophomore B.R. and freshman M. D. - also left their marks. R. won the 400 in 59.18 and was second in the 200 after running 26.04. D. added a silver in the 3,200 (11:41.10) and a bronze in the 1,600 (5:27.91)." [NJsports.com] Our boys track and field was ranked 3rd. Boys Lacrosse is 1:5 and Baseball is 4:4. Thank you so much for sponsoring our transportation to practices this spring.”

  • Lock It Up: Escape Rooms

    Funded Apr 20, 2018

Thank you so very much for these locks for our escape rooms. The students have already completed one task with the locks and are looking forward to completing more. These locks are so cool and it is interesting when they have to solve for the clues and then solve for the lock combination.

We are also sharing the locks with the elementary school. We have played a game where they unlock the treasure chest when they complete the task and do all of the math to figure out the lock combination. So cool.

    Thank you so much.”

  • Pin It Up! FIRST Robotics Custom Swag

    Funded Feb 21, 2018

Thank you so much for all of our swag. We have attended 5 competitions so far and we have given out over 800 buttons. Next week, we are going to the World Championship and we will be giving out another 1000 buttons.

Everyone loves the square buttons. They are so much different that everyone else's buttons. The round buttons, that say Mechanical Mustangs, are treasured by the students in our town. They keep asking for them because they look so cool and represent our town mascot, the mustang, very well.

We are so grateful for your support and we are proud to say we are a Lockheed Martin team!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Newman

  • Let's Connect and Escape!

    Funded Jan 2, 2018

We have had such a fantastic time this season, building, designing, and competing. Last weekend we worked with a group of rookies and made sure their robots were ready for inspection. We helped them with their bumpers and their various mechanisms.

We have built our escape robots and the students are having a great time showing them to the elementary school students. We will be working with 2 more groups over the next couple of months and they have built a bunch of mazes.

Thank you so much for supporting our team and our mission to inspire young people to become scientists or engineers.”

  • FIRST Robotics Creates Scientists

    Funded Dec 11, 2017

This has been a fantastic season. We have built a very complicated robot from our kit of parts. We used the CIM motors, power distribution board, additional motors, talon speed controllers, shaft, and connectors. We fabricated an intake using the kit of parts wheels and some versa planetary gear boxes.

They are getting ready to compete around the country: CT, PA, NJ, OH, MI. We will be going to four competitions, hopefully qualifying for both the FIRST Mid-Atlantic District Championship and the FIRST World Championship North.

Thank you so much for supporting our team.”

  • FIRST Robotics Creates Engineering Heroes

    Funded Dec 12, 2017

Thank you so much for supporting our team. We have completed our robot and are getting ready to compete in the next month. We have a telescoping arm with a wheeled intake and a climber with hand designed and fabricated pulleys. The team has been diligently working on our robot every single day and are very excited to debut in Connecticut in a few weeks. The competition looks difficult but we are ready to go. We have been helping another rookie team with their robot and we have spent the last few weeks making sure they are able to compete.

This robot has been an incredibly difficult challenge, picking up this cube and putting it in a scale 7 feet in the air. We are actually under the 120 lb weight and have so many custom pieces that we have designed.

Thank you for your support of our team.”

  • FIRST Mid-Atlantic Robotics Powers Up the Championship (Part 2)

    Funded Dec 16, 2017

Last weekend was the FIRST PowerUp Kickoff where we learned all about our challenge. We had a fantastic time talking with adults from other teams and brainstorming about strategy and different areas of play. We decided to build a telescoping arm which will pick up a crate from the floor and place it onto platforms that range in height from 2 foot to 7 foot. These platform are on a see-saw so you "own" it when it is leaning towards your color. We are also climbing on a 7 ft pole and carrying another robot on our back.

We are going to continue working on improvements to our robot and adding additional mechanisms, autonomous programs, and more efficient driving systems throughout the rest of the season. Our goal is to qualify for the World Championship after earning enough points.

Thank you so much for sponsoring our team and allowing us to attend these sessions.”

  • FIRST Mid-Atlantic Robotics Team Wants Nicely Labeled Wires

    Funded Dec 27, 2017

Today is the beginning of Week 2 of robotics season and we were able to use our label maker for the first time this season today. We were labeling all of our new supplies with "2018" and started our electronics boards.

Just before the holidays, we went to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and in honor of the film, we photographed our labels with Yoda.

We have also been labeling all of the drawers and plenty of other things in the warehouse. We get many many items in these black boxes from VEX Robotics, so we use the label maker to make sure we know what is in each box.

We were also able to label many different allen keys because they are of random sizes and we can't tell exactly which one we need.

The game this year is having us build a robot that can pick up square crates [with covers], and place them onto platforms ranging in height from 2 ft to 7.5 ft. We also are climbing on a 7 ft high bar.

Thank you so much for helping the Mechanical Mustangs Robotics Team!”

    Mr. Newman
