  • Multicultural Self-Portraits to Promote Self-Esteem , Self Care and Writing

    Funded May 10, 2023

Your donations really make a difference in the life of students and mine.

Thank you for all the effort and donations towards this amazing project.

i cant wait to get started on the Multi-Cultural Portraits 2023 to promote self-esteem, cultural pride, self-care and connections to others in the school community.

I am planning on making this a traveling exhibit in the city of Seattle...perhaps making a PowerPoint and sharing it with communities across the USA and the world.

    Thank you so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Clausen

  • Leyendo en Casa...Reading at Home Part 2

    Funded Dec 21, 2022

Receiving books via air mail continues to be an exciting moment for my middle school students. Receiving the box, opening it and discovering the amazing books inside, still brings joy to students. In these days of e-book and cellphones, a paper book and going to the Library has become less and less of an exciting field trip.

So, i decided to bring the field trip into my classroom.

Students have been taking the books home to read with their siblings. Several of the students have siblings with special needs.

Reading is one amazing activity which brings the family closer, teaches and reinforces the Spanish language.

Reading at Home , after interviewing my 7th grade students, has: authentically connected the family, less use of electronic video games, promoted language development and built a academic connection thru different generations.

Reading in my classroom is interactive: sometimes we look at character development, other days we concentrate on Setting and even changing the ending of a story. Reading is amazing.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Clausen

  • Reading With My Family

    Funded Nov 17, 2022

The " Leyendo con la familia " project has been amazibg in more ways than one.

It has not only brought literacy to the younger and older family nembers, but it has also made an improvement with the 7th graders : better attendance , enthusiasm to read other books and a deeper connection to their families.

The books donated by all of you have provoked students to paint, re-ennact scenes from the books and practice reading outloud: makibg voices and using props to make the.books come alive.

    I🧡U...”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Clausen

  • Sharing a Snack = Making a Connection

    Funded Feb 19, 2023

Offering students, a healthy and delicious snack DOES WONDERS.

Thank you for having the heart and vision to support our Snacks in the Classroom project.

Healthy snacks = happy students = completed classwork = creates community = they love the teacher!!!

And they learn to eat something healthy and tasty at school.

    Muchas gracias,”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Clausen

  • LEGOS Self-Care

    Funded Oct 28, 2022

The LEGOS have made such an impact in the classroom: every Wednesday we have a Mental Health Day to Connect with Others. This "breather" in the middle of the week has allowed students o be more productive, listen more carefully and create connections with their classmates and myself.

I asked to build a village with houses, garden and everything they thought a village would include.

Since I have students from all over the world...the villages reflected their background, their memories and what they left behind.

Using LEGOS has allowed for students and myself to seat in groups of 4 and create/build/dream/relate/converse/remember/cry/laugh...I LOVE LEGOS!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Clausen

  • Art Empowerment in 7th Grade

    Funded Oct 11, 2022

The art materials have come at the perfect time in my classroom. I wish I could write all this in my native language, Spanish...but I will do it in English.

Students have been so creative with the use of the materials.

Every Wednesday we create something: we have been working on creating hearts for The Day of Love and Friendship ( that is what we call Valentine's Day in Latinamerica).

The temperas and brushes are fantastic.

I managed to get the multi-media paper to properly use the temperas.

    Thank you so much.

Several students will be submitting their paintings into the library.

Art is a way to save our souls. And the parents have also come and sone some art on Wednesdays.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Clausen

  • Libros, Por Favor! Becoming Fully Bilingual

    Funded Feb 7, 2012

I would like to first apologize for not writing sooner. I have had two hip replacements in the last 11 months. However, I am back in school and ready to go, pain free.

The students in the Dual Language Program at Denny International are growing in numbers. We are now 130 Spanish Literacy students, grades 6th through 8th grade.

The books & Dictionaries you so kindly donated were used last year every single day of our school year. And, this year it will be the same.

    Muchisimas gracias”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Clausen
