My students engage in critical thinking, problem solving, and self-reflection. All of these are 21st century skills. However, my students do not have access to consistent, quality technology as they should. We are an urban Title I school and my students are economically underprivileged. Many schools have developed a 1:1 model, where each student is assigned a tablet which they use for academic purposes. This is a successful and progressive endeavor and I would like my students to experience this amazing advantage, even though their school does not. None of my students have access to a home desktop computer, and only a few have access to a laptop. Taking this into consideration, it is even more important for my students to engage with technology for educational purposes during school time. Having a classroom set of Fire tablets would allow my students to research topics of their choice, evaluate quality information, create presentations, and access educational applications. Furthermore, the opportunity to move to a mostly paperless classroom would be possible with a classroom set of tablets. My students need and deserve equitable access to educational technology. Please help us achieve this goal and enhance our middle school experience. Thank you so much for your time in reading this.
