Funded Sep 10, 2017Thank you for your generosity in contributing to this project.
The school year is under way and we have been making great use of the resources your donations have provided.
My students were so excited to see the new whiteboards, markers, and erasers when I first opened the package. They couldn't wait to try them out! We use all them materials regularly in the classroom, during math and even in other subjects! I use my new teacher whiteboard ALL day - for small group reading lessons, during writing, and when I need to meet with a small group for extra help in math.
The Math whiteboards were especially helpful when we were learning about the Distributive Property of Multiplication. This a really hard concept for 3rd graders to grasp but thanks that the array grid on the Math whiteboards every child was able to understand and successfully use the Distributive Property to solve multiplication problems. They drew their array using the grid (4 x 8), drew a line in the grid to break up one factor into two parts (3 + 5), and wrote an equation to show each part (4 x 3) + (4 x 5). This helped them solve multiplication problems that were beyond the facts they had memorized so far and helped them think more flexibly about numbers.
We also used the Math boards to help students understand the relationship between division and multiplication, using the fact family triangles.
These resources will come in handy all year! Next we will be using them for more division practice and problem solving!
Thanks again for your support.”

Funded Dec 19, 2016Thank you for helping bring comic books to our classroom!
My students were so excited when the package came in and they found out what was inside. The comic books were high quality and colorful so they immediately engaged every student's attention. The kids couldn't wait until the books had their own proper bin the our library. The comics were very popular with all my students during independent reading - especially The Great Antonio.
I even used the comics during lessons. Thanks to the wonderful graphic organizers, lessons, and other resources supplies by TOON books, I was able to use the comics in small group mini lessons to teach a variety of reading skills. Comics were especially helpful in teaching my students with severe learning difficulties and Autism to make inferences character traits, feelings, and motivations. Using the pictures as supports they were able to determine what events and actions caused the Fox in "Hearts" to be distraught and why she might be feeling that way.
Thanks again for your support in engaging my students and developing their love of learning.”
