  • Print, Print, Learn!

    Funded Sep 24, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donations to this project! I was so excited to get our new printer and supplies and set it up in our classroom. I moved to a new school this year and have been looking to change several teaching methods. Being able to print new materials has been so wonderful!

My students are loving all the colorful centers. Last week we went on a "10 frame scavenger hunt" and found cards I had placed around the room. Each month they complete seasonal word searches and practice new vocabulary. And they all have a spot to stand on when we line up now!

Again, thank you for your donation and for supporting my classroom! My students and I thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ashford

  • Wobbly Kids Take 2!

    Funded Apr 6, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Thank you so much for helping fund this project! My students were so excited to open the boxes and assemble our new wiggle stools. They are sitting in our listening center and the students love to sit on them while they listen to stories.

My Kindergarten students are naturally very wiggly and have trouble sitting in traditional student chairs. They LOVE sitting on these stools! They are able to focus more on their work and worry less about how they are sitting. I have seen a big improvement with on-task behavior since introducing these chairs.

Again, thank you for supporting this project and our classroom! We thank you very much!”

  • Wobbly Kids Need Wobble Chairs!

    Funded Mar 11, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Thank you so much for supporting this project! My class was so excited to get these wobble chairs for our reading table. The stools are around our "big blue reading table" and students sit in them while they are doing small reading groups with me.

My students love the stools! They are able to wiggle and wobble just slightly in them. I was worried they would be distracted by the chairs, but it's just the opposite! I've noticed students be more focused and engaged in our reading lessons since receiving the wobble stools.

Thank you again for supporting our classroom and this project!”

  • Wanted: Dry Erase Markers to Go with Dry Erase Boards!

    Funded Jan 26, 2015

Thank you for donating to my latest project! I was so excited to get these new markers and get them into the hands of my students. We use dry erase boards all the time in Kindergarten, so markers are VERY important to us!

I have been using the boards in both Language and Math small groups. We use the markers to write letters, sight words and sentences in Language/Reading. In Math, we write numbers, draw pictures to illustrate quantities and work on equations (addition and subtraction). As you can probably tell, we use them all the time!

Again, thank you for your donation to this project and for supporting my classroom. My students and I thank you so much and hope that you continue to support public education through Donor's Choose!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ashford

  • Move Your Feet, Find Your Seat!

    Funded Sep 11, 2014

My students were so excited when I told them we were getting a new class rug! They started cheering right away and saying things like "now we won't be squished!" and "we'll all have our own space!" It's hard to describe in a letter just how excited they were.

The rug has helped tremendously in our classroom. Now all students have a designated spot on the rug. No longer do I hear things like "I don't have room!" Every child has enough space to sit, wiggle around, and learn comfortably. It is helping with classroom behavior management, and also becoming a new learning tool. We move around and find letters, identify sounds and animals, etc. with the pictures on the rug.

Some of the things they are saying about our rug:

"I like all the pictures on it."

"I like how big it is."

"I like having my own space."

I cannot begin to thank you enough for your generosity! This rug is a wonderful addition to our classroom, and we feel blessed to be the recipients.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ashford

  • We've Got Our Big Books...Now Where to Put Them?

    Funded Apr 22, 2014

Thank you so much for donating to this project! We received our big book stand and my kids were so excited! I as the teacher of course, was also thrilled. It has helped tremendously in my classroom to keep us organized and to offer a focal point for my students while sitting on the rug.

The back of the stand is awesome because it keeps the big books sitting upright, so they do not get damaged. It is so easy to move them around and find just the right book, and my kids can easily access the books themselves. The top/stand part is amazing because it holds the books so well- which makes it much easier for me to read the big books! My kids can also come up and find sight words, point out text features in the books, etc. We also love the front with the magnetic dry erase. As you can see in the pictures, it helps us organize our free choice centers.

Again, thank you so much for helping with this project. It has helped tremendously in our classroom and I can't thank you enough!!”

  • Kindergarten Readers Need Good Storage!

    Funded Mar 12, 2014

Thank you so much for your generous donations! My students were so excited to get this new bookshelf and book bins and put them straight to good use. I was able to reorganized both my classroom library area and my guided reading area.

The bookshelf (as seen in the pictures) is in my classroom library section and holds all kinds of books. Students are free to go over and can easily find the book they are looking for. The book bins are in my guided reading area, and are accessible to both me and my students. During free reading time, students can go and find a book that is on their level. During guided reading time, I can quickly find books that are both challenging and engaging to my students and easily give them books that are on their level.

Again, thank you so much for your donation. This has helped organize my classroom tremendously and I am so appreciative!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ashford

  • Big Books Are Big Fun!

    Funded Mar 18, 2014

Thank you so much for your donation to this project. My students were so excited to get a large package in the mail and made lots of very cute guesses as to what could be inside. They were all so thrilled when we opened it together to see all the beautiful big books! Many of the titles are ones they are familiar with, so they were especially excited to see those books.

The pictures I uploaded show the students working in small groups sharing one big book. I gave each student a piece of highlighter tape and asked them to find a "sight word" in the book. They each got to put the tape down in the book to highlight their chosen word, then added those words to the word wall in our classroom. We have done this activity now several times, adding new words we find each time. The kids love it and love finding new words to add. I love that they can all be actively engaged in the book and not fight over seeing the pictures, words, etc. Big books are perfect for this!

Again, thank you so much for your generous donation. My students love these books and I know that students in many years to come will love them as well.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ashford

  • Help Our Wiggle Worms!

    Funded Dec 19, 2013

Thank you all so much for your donation to this project! My students were so excited to open the box from UPS and see what was inside. They were very intrigued when I told them what the cushions were and what they are for.

We have been using our cushions during group time on the rug, and they are great! Before I had students wiggling around and having difficulty sitting still. They were playing with their feet, moving around and therefore not listening. Now that they have a cushion to sit on, they are much better about paying attention to the lesson. I can definitely see a reduction in off-task behavior and an increase in attention.

Again, thank you for your support of our classroom and this project. I appreciate the generous donations. On behalf of my students, thank you!”

  • Kindergarteners on Point with Pencils!

    Funded Dec 29, 2013

Thank you so much for your donations! My students were so excited to get our materials. The first thing they wanted to do was to try out the new pencil grips. They could hardly wait for me to sharpen the pencils!

We have used these materials all day, every day since we received them. I put the pencil grips on several students' pencils and they LOVE them. Several have even commented to me that they can see their handwriting improving. I certainly can already see a difference.

Again, thank you so much for your generosity. It is wonderful to have the support of people like you who value public education. My students are loving their new pencils and erasers, and couldn't be happier!”
