    Funded Feb 22, 2025

Thank you so much for your rapid response to my project! I am so thankful for your support. With these materials, we can focus on 100% engagement for the final months of this year. We will be mastering decimals, long division, fractions and more with these supplies. I can't wait to give the first pencil/eraser incentive for participation, or hear students sharing their solutions with the help of beautiful new whiteboards. We will be busy learning, and look forward to showing you the impact of your donation!”

  • Oh Brother! Our Printer Needs a Refill

    Funded Nov 9, 2023

Many of our students excel with technology. We have been building on their strengths to learn word processing and typing skills. Thanks to the color ink supplies, we have been able to print and share their projects and reports with our school and families. We recently completed animal reports that were greatly enhanced with color printing.

Students, especially our majority English Learner students, get much more engagement and learning with visual supports. They love seeing color images that support our learning. I have been able to print vocabulary support as well as images for their projects.

All students have benefited from these materials. The curricula makes much better sense with visual support! Thank you so much for your generous support.”

  • A Colorful and Clean Classroom

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

The donations we received have made a huge impact on our learning! I cannot stress how helpful color printing is for supporting English Learners, students with disabilities, and our class as a whole. I can print images of plants, pollinators, and all the vocabulary we are learning. The ability to see color images helps build background knowledge. Color images help make abstract concepts more real for our students.

Another simple yet transformative donation was the wipes and tissues! My students love to help wipe desks and boards at the end of the day. Table Wiper is a coveted class job, an best of all our classroom is clean!

I truly appreciate your support in what has been an extremely challenging school year. Thanks to your donations, the post-COVID school year has been easier to navigate. Thank you for the colorful, clean classroom you provided us.”

  • A Reader's Paradise

    Funded Apr 17, 2020

Wow, what a year it's been. I apologize for the long delay - we've been reinventing how school works this year!

This project was originally meant to furnish a rich classroom library. The titles you purchased represent diverse authors, topics, and levels. It's a stunning amount of high-quality literature! Yet this year we've had to read and learn without a physical space, since COVID-19 kept us at home.

Throughout our virtual year, I've used the books different ways. We had Friday after-school book clubs when I read aloud to students. I've tried my hand at YouTube, recording read-alouds for kids (and found I am NOT a future YouTube star). And during the holidays, I decided the best way to use these books was to get them in kids' hands.

I gave most of these titles to students based on their level and interest. I've used books as incentives and prizes when engagement is difficult on the computer. We have spent hundreds of hours looking at screens. Students still love hearing a great story, even in our virtual classroom. If anything, this experience has made physical books even more precious. Students each own 10+ books they can read at home thanks to your generous donations.

Next year I will use the remaining books to build a dream classroom library. For now, it means so much that I can give students books for their own libraries at home.

Thank you for your contributions and support - and for making our class a (virtual) Reader's Paradise!”

  • Seeing & Hearing the World

    Funded Jan 31, 2020

I can't thank you enough for your generosity! I am extremely grateful, and my students will be thrilled when our printer and recorder arrive. Now I can include color images on vocabulary walls and in student dictionaries! I can't wait to scan and print student writing - they'll feel like real, published authors. Kids still learning English will finally be able to express their ideas with voice recording and translation. Our classroom will enrich student learning and reflect everyone's ideas. All I can say is... thank you!! I feel humbled at how quickly our project was funded, and excited for the possibilities ahead.”

  • Fit and Healthy for the Final Countdown

    Funded May 1, 2019

My class ended the year with lots of fun and exercise. Saying goodbye for the summer felt much easier after sharing joy and gratitude for our donors.

During the last months of school, we used these supplies daily. We celebrated our learning with bubbles, jump ropes, dance parties, and dodgeball games. One girl taught jumprope songs and how to swing to the beat.

When they saw the supplies, kids jumped up and down with excitement. They kept saying "that's so nice," "thank you so much" and mostly... "YAY!". They worked as a class to set rules and share fitness tools. My most-fidgety students read voraciously while using under-the-seat bike pedals.

As I prepare for a new group of 2nd graders, I'm brainstorming improvements to our class library. I will focus on reading engagement through song, dance, and diverse literature. I humbly thank you for your support on behalf of my brilliant students, both past and future!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Thompson

  • Calming Corner in a Quiet Classroom

    Funded Dec 16, 2018

The year is flying by with the materials you generously provided. We have FUN when we're learning!

When boxes arrived, students looked shocked. Eager 7 year-olds worked together, carrying them from the office. With a chuckle, I finished moving supplies to our trailer while the kids caught their breath. Each time we unpacked a new beanbag or pillow, everybody asked if they could use it. But with a few ground rules, we now have less chaos and more comfort during work time.

We create a class map that shows where seats belong. When sharing issues arise, we vote on a fair solution. On Fridays, a few volunteers take covers off pillows; on Mondays they happily replace the clean covers. Now kids understand where and how they work while I teach guided reading.

Our classroom is a happier place. Kids relax with a good book, while others practice English using headphones. The noise sounds lower, while effort and engagement feel higher.

Even though we only have 2 months of school left, our class still has a lot more learning to do! Thank you for believing in these amazing kids. Knowing you care helps us build a motivated and caring environment.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Thompson

  • Back to School Supplies: Better Late Than Never!

    Funded Dec 21, 2018

All I can say is... wow! Thank you so much. I was so excited when a single donor fully funded our project thanks to some awesome matching offers. We've been so busy using our supplies that I'm only now putting your impact into words. The kids were so excited. They clamored over each other trying to help put supplies away. Luckily, there were enough supplies that everyone got to help.

No longer do kids need to argue over coloring supplies. Our class has crayons and markers stored in labeled bins. Each kid knows exactly how many go in each box, and they are quick to correct each other when a marker goes missing. They are taking ownership and responsibility for neat, shared materials.

Each time we write, kids can add meaning to their work with bright colors and appropriate skin tones. By far the most exciting addition to our class was the skin tone markers! No longer do my students need to settle for "Peach"; they can color their hair and skin appropriately, and love showing their work off.

The labels have vastly improved my Guided Reading efficiency. Every minute of planning time counts. Each kid has a label with their reading and writing goal, and I easily sticker my lesson plans in seconds. The box of copy paper has come and gone with intentionality; I was able to prepare HW, tests, and worksheets with ease instead of waiting on a school supply request.

In the final months of 2nd grade, my students will nearly all reach grade level. I am working harder than ever to make sure they are ready for third grade. Being able to work productively while I teach small group has encouraged a huge jump in reading and math scores. Every minute with kids counts, and thanks to these supplies, our schooldays are more interesting, engaging, and rigorous.

I cannot say it enough... Thank you, dear donors!”

  • Building Social Skills and Academics With Positive Incentives

    Funded Feb 6, 2018

With so many new resources, my class has been having a lot of fun. Today we took the jump rope outside and had a mini-lesson on rhythm and teamwork. Such a great incentive on a beautiful day! My students can't wait to play with each board game. By teaching it carefully and rewarding groups of students for positive behavior, each game is a new thrill. These resources help more kids than just my current class. Two of my former students (now in 4th grade) help as mentors . They remember my first Donors Choose project, and it's amazing to see them teach my 2nd graders how positive behavior can help them succeed.

The Chromebooks allow kids time on Flocabulary, Moby Max, Overdrive, and other awesome educational websites. Each kid can practice reading, math, science, and social studies at their academic and interest level. When I told two students that strangers bought the Chromebooks for them, I got wide-mouthed stares in return. Kids can't believe that anyone would spend hundreds of dollars on them! These boys are finishing all their work with the class, thanks to a few minutes of computer motivation.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your support makes my class a rewarding place to learn. Tomorrow we will enjoy one of the classic books for Fun Friday, and the kids can't wait to see what's in store!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Thompson
