In September, I will begin my third year as my school’s Lego Robotics Coach. Each year thus far, I have had the pleasure to see my team grow, not only in size, but also in the eagerness, curiosity, knowledge, and ability of my amazing students. I am proud to say that every team member has fully embraced each of the Core Values (Discovery, Innovation, Impact, Inclusion, Teamwork, and Fun) set forth by the First Lego League. They enjoy every aspect of competition, which includes research, as well as robot design, programming missions, and competition. Although we do have Chromebooks, they are older and do not support the updated Mindstorm software. Because this software has many new added features, laptops with specific requirements are needed for my students to be able to compete at the same level as their Lego robotic peers. By using laptops, my students will be able to expand their use of different sensors in their robot designs and have the ability to create more intricate programs for their robots to carry out successful missions during competition.
