Funded Oct 16, 2019My students and I are extremely grateful for your generosity! We cannot wait to have our own copies of unit novels to take home, annotate, and keep. Thank you so much for your support with making this happen! My girls will continue in their love for literature because of your generosity! They will be able to dig deeper into unit themes of justice, equality, survival, teamwork and leadership as they read “Warriors Don’t Cry” and “Call of the Wild” and make even more connections with the texts as they read them at home with their families.”

Funded Dec 31, 2018Thank you again for your support! My students will begin reading both novels when the unit 3 commences in two weeks! They are already excited about being able to have their own personal copies to write in, take home each night, and use for their essays!
The 7th Graders will be discussing the following essential questions as they read "The Call of the Wild":
How can people change when faced with survival situations?
What does it mean to follow your instincts?
What does it mean to be a leader?
How can collaboration support survival?
The 8th graders will be discussing the following questions as they read "To Kill a Mockingbird":
How is conformity a right, a burden, and a responsibility?
How is individuality both risky and rewarding for the individual and society?
During this upcoming unit, we will also be focused on making meaningful annotations. With their own copies of the novels, annotating will be a much easier skill for students to develop. My students and I are extremely appreciative of your generous donation to our classroom! Your support has been a game changer for my students for the year!”

Reading with Ease! Reading Nook
Funded Dec 4, 2017My students used our class Reading Nook daily through station rotations and they LOVED it! When my students first saw the Reading Nook they all wanted know what they had to do to be able to sit there. Everyone wanted to sit on the Zynergy Ball chairs! Once they realized it was a rotation and that everyone would get the opportunity to sit there, they were so excited.
Thank you for supporting my students with this project! The goal of the project was to provide a flexible learning space that would help students build reading and writing stamina. The space was a success! My students demonstrated tremendous growth in PARCC scores and Student Reading Inventory scores; some students doubled their SRI scores and grew more than two reading levels this year!
Thank you again for supporting this project and please excuse my delay in sending this impact letter out! Your contributions are greatly appreciated! This year I am serving at an all-girls school in the same neighborhood as Ballou Senior High School! I will be moving the Reading Nook to my new classroom for my girls to build their reading and writing stamina this year! With class sizes that are over 30 young people, I know that this Reading Nook will be impactful!”

We Have To Type Everything In College?
Funded Dec 20, 2016Thank you again so much for your contribution! These Chromebooks are empowering my students to be 21st century learners and preparing them for college and career. Having daily access to the Internet and digital formatting is ensuring that my students are comfortable with using the technology that they will be required to use in college and beyond.
What's most exciting about these Chromebooks is students' ability to share documents on Google Drive with their teacher and peers and receive live feedback. They are excited about being able to collaborate on Google Docs and complete group projects simultaneously from different computers.
This technology is especially helping improve attendance and test scores for students that have struggled with content because of truancy. Students are enrolled in customized courses on Gooru.org and are completing assignments on NEWSELA.com. They really enjoy feeling successful when they demonstrate mastery on their online assignments.
These Chromebooks have definitely been a game changer for my students! Your contribution is greatly appreciated!”
