Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) is a Federal non-profit mentoring program where students are taught invaluable soft skills and traditional hard skills by highly-trained JAG Specialists. My JAG students at H.L. Bourgeois High School develop into their best professional and personal selves, empowered by me to find their voices in positive manners and learn that the sky is actually the limit for them all if they believe in themselves and are clear about their paths and intentions. My JAG students face an average of 11 barriers to success. These barriers range from shyness, low self-esteem, lack of job skills and transportation, to more severe issues like poverty, death or incareration of a parent, and domestic violence to name some. Such Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) have lasting emotional and health impacts that can extend into adulthood, influencing their well-being in both personal and professional spheres.
