  • Nonfiction in Pre-kindergarten

    Funded May 6, 2014

Thank you again for your generous support of my Pre-Kindergarten class. Introducing students to quality non-fiction resources is very important. Even in PreK.

The Time for Kids and Scholastic News subscriptions are for the entire school year. My students first magazines are about the first few days of school. Each magazine has wonderful pictures of children similar to the ones in my class doing things. Another great thing about the magazines is that they are written at a reading level that some of my students are able to start reading independently.

We wouldn't have these amazing resources without your generosity and for that I am very grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Smirk

  • Laptop Needed

    Funded Apr 16, 2014

I am writing to thank you all again for supporting my prekindergarten class with a wonderful laptop. It took me while to get used to working on an Apple computer instead of a PC. Once I got used to it I looked for a web based program for my students to use on the new laptop.

Now my students are having a blast working on their reading and math skills on the program Brainzy from education.com. Each child has their own login so they can work at their own pace.

Thank you again for supporting me and my students. I can't wait until next year when we can use it with the new SMART board my school is buying.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Smirk

  • We Love Piggie And Gerald!

    Funded Apr 6, 2014

Thank you again for your very generous donations. My students are so in love with the "Piggie and Gerald" books your donations provided. I tried hiding the book from my students when they first arrived but one of my students peeked in the box and got the entire class begging for new stories about two of their favorite characters. Now that I read the stories to them they have been reading the books independently in the classroom library.

I can't wait for the last day of school when I can give each child of the lovely books your donations provided. I know they will be really happy for this generous gift.”

  • Bringing Fairy Tales To Life

    Funded Jan 9, 2014

Thank you again for your generous donations. Your generosity provided my pre-kindergarten students with wonderful resources that have helped enhance our different Fairy Tale Units.

So far this year we have used the materials your donations provided while reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Three Little Pigs. The students really enjoyed acting out the stories using the puppets and masks. In the next month we will read the Three Billy Goats Gruff and the students will get a chance to use more of the resources.

We are very grateful for all of these resources and for people like you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Smirk

  • A Better Science and Discovery Center

    Funded Feb 9, 2014

I am writing to thank you again for supporting my pre-kindergarten classroom. The new science exploration table and chairs aren't a wonderful addition to our science center. Finally I have a table that I can dedicate to science. I no longer have to set up science activities at one of our lunch tables just to have to put it away the same day.

This month we are learning about plants and seeds. Last week the students used the table to explore beans. The students had a great time sorting, counting, feeling and making patterns with beans. This exploration wouldn't be possible without your support. You generosity won't be forgotten.”

  • Budding Builders and Engineers

    Funded May 6, 2014

Thank you again for your very generous donations to my Pre-Kindergarten class. We already received a majority of the Duplo blocks your donations provided and my students are already having fun as they learn.

Right now we are in the middle of a Unit of Study about Farm. So it is a perfect time to use the farm set of Duplo blocks. The pictures I posted should show you just how much fun they are having. And my wish that these sets would encourage the girls to play with building toys has come true. The girls are now sad when they can't go to Table Toys. This couldn't have happened without you. I am forever grateful.”

  • Pre-K Leveled Readers

    Funded Dec 30, 2013

Thank you again for all of your generous donations. I can't recall the last time my school purchased new books for my classroom but with your help we now have a large set of books that are helping my students become independent readers every day.

The students started using the books as soon as they arrived. Each night the kids in my class get to bring books home to read with their families and the books you provided go home nightly. The books are reading level A and that is the level of most of my students. When the kids bring the books home they are excited to be able to read them to someone in their family instead of their family members reading to them. The parents are even impressed that their kids are able to read these books independently.

I couldn't have provided these books for my students on my own. I will always be grateful that you thought my students should have these books too.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Smirk

  • Mini iPad for Students to Grow Big

    Funded Dec 19, 2013

I am writing to let you know the difference your donations have made to my students. The iPad mini your donations provided has been put to good use by students as soon as it arrived in my classroom.

We have two iPads in our room but the mini iPad had become a classroom favorite. Since it is smaller and lighter it is much easier for my three and four year old students to hold. We have plenty of literacy, math, science and social studies applications on the iPad mini so my students are able to practice what we are learning in class while becoming technology savvy. We would not be able to have such a wonderful resource in our room without your help. Thank you again for putting public school students on your priority list.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Smirk

  • The Many Colors of Pre-K

    Funded Nov 15, 2013

I am writing to let you know how great all of the art supplies your donations purchased have been for my students.

The markers, paint and other art supplies were delivered quickly after the project was fully funded. My prekindergarten students put the markers to use right away as they drew pictures to respond to stories.

Lately we have put the paint to really good use. First we painted a mural of different modes of transportation during our Trucks unit. Then the students painted individual rainbows to create wind socks.

We will continue to use and enjoy these supplies throughout the year. And I will continue to be grateful for your generosity.”

  • We Need Ink!

    Funded Oct 7, 2013

Thank you again for your generous donations. The toner your support provided has already been put to very good use by me and the kids in my Pre-kindergarten class.

My students get between one to three worksheets for homework a night. I create and print a lot of this homework and notes to the parents on out classroom using this toner. If I didn't have the toner your donations supplied I would have to use my printer at home and this would be very expensive for me.

The students have used it a lot when they are creating pictures on the program Kidpix. We recently drew snowmen on the computer and printed them out to share with you.

The kids are excited to know that strangers are helping them get things to improve out classroom and their education, and so am I.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Smirk
