  • Writing and Cleaning

    Funded Oct 17, 2014

I am writing to thank you again for your generous donations to my Pre-Kindergarten classroom. The cleaning supplies your donations provided have been keeping all of our classroom surfaces clean, and the pencil sharpener and pencils have been keeping my students writing.

Every morning I come in to my classroom and wipe down all of the tables with the Lysol wipes. Then we use them again before breakfast and lunch. Keeping the tables clean helps prevent the spread of germs. And we can use all the help we can get with that in Pre-K.

We also use the pencils and pencil sharpener. At this time of year almost all of my students can write their own names and many are also starting to write even more than that.”

  • Shelf for Science

    Funded Aug 18, 2014

The shelf your donations provided has arrived and is already making our science center a better place for my Pre-kindergarten students to learn and play. As soon as it arrived I started organizing our science materials on the shelf. It is so wonderful to have a place to organize all of our science materials.

Now that all of the materials are organized they are ready for my students to use. The shelf and the way it helps us organize makes it easier for the students to find the materials they want to explore, and when they are done they are able to clean up easily now that everything has its own place on the shelf.

I wouldn't have been able to get the shelf without your generosity and I will always be grateful to you.”

  • Pre-K Painters

    Funded Dec 11, 2014

Thank you again for your generous donation. The paint and paint supplies have arrived and they are already being put to good use by my pre-kindergarten students.

So far they have just used the tempura paints and the easel paper. They love getting to paint at the easel. Sometimes I ask them to try to paint something but I usually just let them paint whatever they want. When they do this they learn about mixing colors to make new colors and they get to practice making shapes.

Next week we I plan on using the liquid watercolor paint to create Valentine's Day cards. All of these experiences would not have been happening without your help. I am forever grateful.”

  • Playing and Learning with Play-doh

    Funded Sep 29, 2014

Thank you again for your generous donations. The play-doh and playdough tools have arrived and my pre-kindergarten students have been busy being sculptors.

With all of the materials your donations provided our play dough center is full of everything my students could possibly want to explore play-doh. My favorite thing is the mats. They help the students keep the tables clean while they are being creative. The students really love the Build and Play Funny Dough toys that let them create silly play-doh people.

We are all so grateful to have such wonderful resources and for people like you.”

  • Building Intelligence

    Funded Dec 3, 2014

I want to thank you again for your generous donations to my pre-kindergarten class. The building blocks you helped provide have arrived and boy are they a tremendous hit.

My students have been busy this week using the blocks to build roads, apartment buildings and princess castles. They love how big and strong they are. One group of students used the blocks to build a stage so they could sing for me. They were able to stand on their stage without fear of the structure breaking under their weight. The structure was so strong even I was able to stand on them.

These blocks will be used in my class by students for years and I will always be grateful for your generosity.”

  • Bins Keep It Organized

    Funded Jul 13, 2014

I am writing to thank you again for your generous donations and for the bins your donations gave us. We received the bins last month and I got right to work cleaning my disheveled shelves and the student cubbies. It is so great that all of the classroom materials have their own storage bins. The shelves and cubbies are no longer an eye sore.

The bins we used in the cubbies contain the students change of clothes. I used to find these clothes thrown on the floor of the cubbies. Now they are neatly in bins under the students book bag. The ones I used on the classroom shelves hold supplies. Now that they are in bins the students and I can find them and clean them up easily. Thank you again for making my pre-kindergarten classroom and even better place.”

  • Books to Start Off the School Year

    Funded Jun 4, 2014

I gave my pre-kindergarten students their books yesterday and they could not believe that the books were a gift from a Donor at DonorsChoose.org and that they could bring them home to say. I really love being able to help the students add to or create their personal library.

"Pete the Cat , The Wheels on the Bus" and "David Goes to School" are books my students read over and over again when they are in my classroom. Now with your generous donations they can do this at home. I encourage my students families to read with them every-night but many of them did not have books in their homes to read to their kids. We are grateful that the students now have quality books they could read whenever they want to and this couldn't have happened without your generosity.”

  • Getting SMART With Technology

    Funded Sep 8, 2014

The SMART-board programs your generous donations provided have arrived and they have already helped my pre-kindergarten students to become excited about learning. They get to use at least one if not two of the programs everyday. We start of by using the circle time program, and this helps the kids practice recognizing the days of the week, the months of the year and numbers 1-31. During Word Work the students use the Letter of the Day program. They learn how to recognize letters, the letter sounds and how to write the letters. However the favorite program we have used so far is the science program Our Five Senses. This program has great videos about the five senses and games to reinforce what they have learned.

We still have a few programs to try and I know the students will like them too. Thank you again for your generous donations. My students and I are forever grateful.”

  • Keeping It Clean

    Funded May 17, 2014

I am writing to thank you again for your support of my pre-kindergarten classroom. The Lysol wipes, spray and bags have arrived and I am putting them to good use keeping my classroom clean.

We eat breakfast, lunch and snack in our room each day. The wipes are a great way for me and my para-professional to clean the tables after each meal. Then I use the Lysol spray to sanitize the students cots each week and to clean toys like our math manipulatives when needed. I am saving the bags for my new students in September. I know they will help keep each students blankets clean and off the floor.

As I continue to use these supplies to keep the classroom clean for my students I will remember your generosity.”

  • Pre-K Scientists

    Funded May 6, 2014

I want to thank you all again for supporting my Pre-kindergarten class. Your generous donations has provided my class with such wonderful science resources. School districts and administrators expect to see the students engaged in hands on science lessons but they do not provide the classes with the materials to make this possible. Well thanks to you we have some of these resources.

At the end of the last school year my students had a great time exploring magnets with the magnet set you provided. Now my new class is learning about their five senses with the STEM center kit we received, and we are looking forward to continue to build our scientific knowledge with all of the hands on science materials you helped provide. As we do our gratitude will grow.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Smirk
