Thank you for making this project a reality. I look forward to providing my students even more opportunities to recoup skills lost during the pandemic. My students will be provided 45 minutes daily to work on Reading Plus and I cannot wait to see their progress.

  • Cutting Edge Vocational Opportunities in the Age of COVID-19!

    Funded May 4, 2021

Thank you so much for funding this project! In the age of COVID, I have had to pivot vocational education from community-based to campus-based. The funding of this project of a Brother DIY Cutting Machine and vinyl will allow me to help my students learn how to create, market and sell the items they make.

I absolutely cannot wait to see what my students come up with for designs. I am so thankful you chose this project to fund.”

  • My Senses Are Telling Me It's Time for a Break

    Funded Aug 22, 2018

It's hard to imagine having sensory needs and not having the proper items to meet those needs. My students have those sensory needs and now they are being met with the funding of this project. My students love being able to squish the kinetic sand, use magnets to build tall structures, putty to squeeze, fidget to well fidget and legos to sit quietly, follow visual directs and build with.

When our materials came in, everyone wanted to see what was in the boxes. There were no sensory items to speak of in my room when we ended last year. Now, I have an entire bookcase with neatly organized sensory items for the students to use as needed. So often, small sensory breaks make a big difference in my classroom. The students are learning to use these breaks and these materials as ways to relax and ,at times, regroup. The sensory items are making a difference in the classroom.”

  • Learning Life Skills With Aero-gardens

    Funded Dec 20, 2017

When our Aero-Gardens arrived, not one of my students had ever seen one before. We had a discussion about how we were growing veggies, herbs and flowers in water (hydroponics) instead of soil. The students were amazed that our veggies, herbs and flowers were being grown in water. We opened the boxes and set the gardens up.

The students got to choose what we were growing during our first round. Student A chose to grow heirloom tomatoes, student B chose Italian herbs and student C chose flowers. We decided to use varying amounts of fertilizer in the 3 different tanks. One tank got an entire bottle of fertilizer, one tank got half a bottle and one tank got one table spoon. We learned very quickly that the tank with the most fertilizer sprouted the quickest.

The first thing the students do every morning is look at the Aero-Gardens to see how much the seedlings have grown overnight. Next, we will use the tomatoes and herbs to cook! We cook every Friday and have decided once the Italian herbs are ready that we will make Italian chicken. Thank you so much for your generous donation that has allowed my students to experience gardening in a whole new way.”

  • Clean Classroom + Healthy Students = An Awesome School Year!

    Funded Jul 27, 2017

The beginning of the school year brings such wonder and excitement for students with special needs of all ages. Getting your supply list, going to the store to buy new supplies, a lunch box and book bag all signal school is about to start. For so many of my students, the reality is that there just isn't enough money to keep food on the table and buy requested supplies. By donating to this project, you've allowed my students to have the necessary hygiene products to start every day fresh and clean as well as learn how to brush their teeth and properly use deodorant.

The janitorial supplies keep my room clean and healthy. A number of my students have very serious medical conditions, so keeping the classroom as clean as possible is a must. The students also learn life skills by helping clean the classroom and wash clothes. My students have goals on their IEPs related to cleaning, hygiene and caring for clothing. Your donation allows them to practice those goals. My students can take pride in their appearance when they are clean and healthy.

As you will see from one of the pictures, I purchased an over the door shoe holder which we use as a station to hold our hygiene supplies. When the students came in and saw that set up with a pocket for each student full of hygiene products, I immediately had a line ready to brush teeth and put on deodorant. I cannot thank you enough for choosing my project out of all the projects posted to help fund. You have truly made 13 beautiful student extremely happy!”

    Mrs. Markland

  • Now You're Cooking!

    Funded Dec 7, 2016

My students and I thank each of you so very much for donating to Now You're Cooking. The ability to prepare your own food is a life-long skill that my students are now able to learn about and practice at school and share at home. Since receiving our materials, we have focused on healthy meals and have made scrambled eggs (mostly egg whites), spaghetti marinara, various salads, veggies and low fat chicken quesadillas just to name a few. We have been able to make cupcakes to celebrate birthdays and cornbread with honey butter for a teacher's birthday.

It's wonderful to see the looks on the faces of my students when they are able to read a recipe, gather ingredients/supplies and actually cook a meal. The materials we received are so nice that other classrooms are using our kitchen and materials to also cook healthy meals.

I can also use the cooking materials to help students who are interested in working in restaurants when they graduate. There is a Culinary Arts program at our school and I am going to ask the Chef to come in and teach my students skills like knife handling and proper food storage. Post-secondary options are so important for my students. We will be able to use these materials for many years to come. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Markland

  • Playing Head Games!

    Funded Nov 18, 2016

Thank you very much for donating to my project "Playing Head Games". Your generous donation allows my students to go into the Computer Lab Classes and fully participate with peers. My students were so excited when the box came to the school that when the secretary called to say we had a delivery, the whole class went to the office to pick it up.

Each student was given the opportunity to choose his or her special headphones just for them. They got to put their names on them and try them out the first day they arrived. The volume control allows the students with sensory needs to adjust the volume to the level that suits their ears. The fact that the headphones are over the ear allows my students who cannot wear typical ear buds to also participate fully in class.

The headphones are used every day and are so popular that another class even borrows them. They are well-made and will last us for years to come. Thank you so much for helping us fully participate in Computer Lab classes. Without donor, like yourselves, we wouldn't be able to go to the Computer Lab.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Markland

  • A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words!

    Funded Dec 10, 2008

Words cannot express my gratitude. In these difficult times, your funding my project truly will make a difference in the lives of my students and will help me become a better teacher.

By funding this project, it will allow my students to experience the world of work through technology (computer, MP3). I will even be able to record students at work, do mock interviewing, and allow the students to send video messages both near and far. I have fantastic parental support and I know when I send these video clips home for the students to view that the parents actually see their children out in the community working that it will bolster their confidence in their students' abilities. Thank you, thank you, thank you”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Markland
