  • Sounds and Colors

    Funded Sep 17, 2023

Thank you so very much for your generous donation to this project. It is so very gracious of you to contribute to the education of my students through projects with DonorsChoose. Each student got to have their choice of color of earbuds, which makes locating them very quick. They are able to easily access these needed materials to individualize their instruction at any time.

The markers have allowed my students and myself to create projects, color code diagrams and notes, and create anchor charts throughout the classroom. Thank you for your contribution to quality learning in my classroom. You are so greatly appreciated!”

  • Buttoning Up Success

    Funded Sep 11, 2023

Thank you so very much for your generous donation to this project. The addition of a button maker to my. classroom has done so much for the classroom climate. Students love getting their birthday button first thing in the morning on their birthday. They will come to my classroom as soon as they get to school so they can proudly wear their button all day long. I even have students I have never met ask if they can have a button for their birthday.

The button machine has also been used to create buttons for students who go out of their way to be exceptional. Whether that be in behavior or academics, they proudly wear their "I am a Superstar" button when they earn it.

Thank you so much for making this addition to my classroom.”

  • Challenges and Creativity

    Funded Jun 16, 2023

Thank you so very much for enhancing my students' learning experience with these creativity-building and problem-solving activities. They have been such a great addition to my classroom. Students look forward to successfully completing their work so that they may check out a creativity challenge. They are determined to solve the color sudoku puzzle before I can. They beg for "just 2 more minutes" before they have to clean up to change classes. They absolutely love an opportunity they get to use these materials in my classroom. I am so very thankful for your help in providing these!”

  • Engineering a Ferris Wheel

    Funded Jun 22, 2023

Fridays in Engineering Enrichment class have now become "Ferris Wheel Fridays" and the students could not be more excited! When they walk into the room, they ask, "What step are we on?" and "How long until it is taller than you, Mrs. Greene?" A 6 foot ferris wheel made from K'nex is a spectacular way to get students involved, paying attention to detail, checking their work, collaborating with their peers, and working hard. It doesn't take them long to step in to help their peers when they notice that there is struggle happening. It is absolutely amazing to watch and I hope to bring more projects like this to my students soon.”

  • Basic Supplies & Back to School Fun

    Funded Jun 19, 2023

Thank you so much for allowing my students a special memory from their 5th grade year. Creating these "toys" with my students helped them to remember that iron filings were magnetic. It also helped my students remember that they were iron FILINGS, not iron FILLINGS like several fifth graders like to pronounce them as. In the pictures, you can see my picture with my hair removed via a bald photo filter. I then printed the pictures out, laminated them so they would not be damaged, hot glued them into the petri dishes, added iron filings, and glued them closed. The students had so much fun creating hair dos and facial hair on their picture. Thank you so much for helping me bring this fun to my students as a fun memory of their 5th grad year.”

  • Sub-Zero States of Matter

    Funded May 5, 2023

Thank you so very much for your contribution to this amazing project. I filled the dewar with liquid nitrogen and we explored all the amazing things we could do with it. My students learned that liquid nitrogen is similar to water in some ways but it is very different in other ways. We explored the fact that it is a liquid and evaporates when it warms, but the temperature that it happens at is vastly different. When I poured a small cup of liquid nitrogen on a paper towel on their table, they were fascinated at how fast it evaporated but felt cold while doing it. So many fun conversations and discovering happened thanks to your donations. Oh! And liquid nitrogen marshmallows are a pretty amazing snack! Thank you again for making this possible. These tools will be used for many years to come.”

  • Biographical Lab Coats

    Funded Apr 19, 2023

In my fourteen years of teaching, this has to be the most amazing project I have had the opportunity to do. The students started by finding more information about a scientist from a list I created for them. They then chose one scientist that they wanted to research and read a biographical novel about their chosen scientist. As they were reading, they were also filling in important life information about their scientist. They looked for what college or university they attended, what they were famous for, what their childhood was like, and other significant events in their life. They were then able to use a curated list of websites to complete their biographical information.

With this information, they decided on ten images that would represent the life of their scientist. Students found university logos, landmarks from places the scientists lived, and other important symbols. They then drew or traced these onto their lab coat with colored pencils or fabric markers. As you can see, the end results are pretty amazing.

Thank you so very much for contributing to this project. I hope these students enjoyed it as much as I did and look back on their lab coat with fond memories.”

    Mrs. Greene

  • Biography Books for Research

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

Thank you so very much for bringing this project to life. When all of my fellow teachers were wondering what in the world to do to keep their students engaged and learning after state testing was complete, I was enjoying hearing from my students what they were learning about the scientist they were researching. I couldn't go five minutes without a student saying, "Mrs. Greene, did you know..?" or "I'm like my scientist because..."

The "Who Was" and "Who Is" books allowed my students to research a scientist in an interesting way. These books are incredibly well written and the students were excited to find more books like them in the future.

Again, your donation to this project is so greatly appreciated! I look forward to using these books in a similar way in the future.”

  • Camp Out - STAAR Style

    Funded Mar 19, 2023

This was a STAAR Review for the memory books thanks to you. My students had the best time learning to make plastic lace keychains during their Arts & Crafts rotation at camp. They truly loved creating and receiving their support message rocks. The thought that went in to how they were going to encourage their classmates was absolutely precious.

For the hard work, they thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to close themselves into and individual tent and work through independent practice that was individually tailored to their needs. Many of them accomplished so much more in a private space than they would have in the middle of a busy classroom.

Finally, camp closed out with their favorite activity: roasting and eating s'mores. Many of them had never had the experience and listened as other students shared their marshmallow roasting expertise. It was so wonderful to give them this experience to wrap up all of their hard work preparing for the Science STAAR.

Thank you for helping me make these memories with my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Greene

  • In Living Color

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Having a color printer in my classroom has been a total game changer in my teaching. From being able to print data reports in color to having classroom materials printed in color, the possibilities have been endless. In February, I was able to print the planets in color for my entire team for an activity about the distance of the planets from the Sun. In March, my students were able to clearly see different structures of animals and how it helps them to survive in their environment. Anchor chart components are able to be printed in color so students are not distracted by my poor drawing skills. Overall, it has been such an amazing addition to my classroom and I cannot thank you enough for your generosity.”
