  • Super Learning for SUPER Students!

    Funded Oct 30, 2021

How do you make learning stick with students? This is a question that many teachers have not figured out! Well...I have! It is to make learning engaging and FUN! Your donations provided me with the chance to enhance my math and literacy centers.

Learning Centers happen weekly and are usually themed. Our themes have included Candyland, Starwars, Penguins, Football, and Unicorns to name a few. The students look forward to these special learning days, and actually so do I!

Each center provides a fun review of the concepts taught that week. It also gives me the time to support students who need reteaching on the newly taught concepts.

I am so thrilled to have been able to provide these fun learning experiences for our class! Thank you for giving me the funds to be able to make it happen!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gilstrap

  • High-Interest Readers for ALL kids!

    Funded Oct 31, 2021

The power of a good book is immeasurable! The books that have been purchased through your donation, have not only impacted the current students in my class but will impact all of the future students who enter my classroom.

Your donations provided me with the chance to buy sets of fiction and nonfiction books. These sets were used in small groups for direct instruction and in reading partnerships. I was able to purchase sets for fiction and nonfiction. Our favorites are our nonfiction shark and reef books, and our chapter book sets.

We learned how to find character traits and evidence, make predictions and inferences, and find the main idea.

    Your donations are greatly appreciated!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gilstrap

  • Super Learners need a Super Classroom

    Funded Feb 6, 2019

As the large boxes began to arrive, the students in room 5 were giddy! They couldn't wait to see the new bean bags, balance balls, and stools unboxed and revealed. They had been eagerly waiting to have more seating options for our classroom.

Flexible seating has been a huge part of our classroom environment. Students are able to find a spot where they feel successful and comfortable. No longer are we sitting behind hard desks and hard chairs in single rows. In Room 5, we are in a comfy bean bag analyzing our nonfiction books, we are huddled around a table on our balance balls discussing in book clubs, or sitting on a low stool quietly writing. Flexible seating provides for a better classroom community and supports each and every learner.

Creating a classroom environment that supports all learners takes a team, and I am so thankful for the support of my donors to help make this kind of environment a reality!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gilstrap

  • New World = New Classroom Design!

    Funded Aug 24, 2017

I am so thrilled to have received the wobble stools and stability cushions for my 2nd-grade classroom. The kids literally jumped for joy when the box of awesomeness arrived in our classroom. They could not wait to have the opportunity to have seated movement while they completed activities. The hard chairs in our classroom are really uncomfortable.

After the unpacking and the quick assembly, the stools and cushions were ready for use. The students try to not to fight over who gets to sit in them each day. I do have to say that I have seen a huge improvement in students behavior and ability to stay on task when they are able to sit on the chairs or cushions. And, if two students really are having a hard time deciding who will use the stools/cushions, a good rock paper scissors battle always settles the dispute.

I still feel so fortunate to have had your support and that my class gets to benefit from your generosity. Room 5 students want to say we are so thankful for YOU!

    2nd Grade

    Beechwood School”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gilstrap

The second graders in my class School in California are ready for a new class design. A classroom where choice is part of their daily learning, and a classroom where the learning space provides easy team collaboration. This redesign needs new seating options to make it happen. We are in need of wobble stools and exercise balls. Research shows that these types of seating clustered around increases motivation and improves core strength and oxygen to the brain. It's also no shock that the opportunity for movement also is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior. I am hopeful that with this new design, the second graders will not only have higher engagement but will also be provided the space for more team collaboration.
