  • Diverse Books for Students

    Funded Jun 10, 2020

Thanks you so much for supporting my project of diverse books. Due to only have small groups of students for a short time throughout the week, I have not been able to use the books as read alouds as I would like too. Students have access to the books to read throughout the day. I have read a few of the story's to the students when we have extra time. "The Day You Begin" was a great book to read and talk about what each of us had for lunch and how we are all different but still have similarities.

Students enjoyed reading the books during our free reading time. They liked seeing characters that look like them or live in houses like them.

The students really enjoyed the skin color paper and crayons. The loved being able to pick out skin that matched their color. It was great to be able to offer them a choice. Many students picked a color that was close and others picked a darker or light color. It was a fun to see how each student felt they looked!

Thank you again for supporting this project!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Messner

  • Individual Supplies for Individual Students

    Funded Jun 13, 2020

Oh my Gosh! I live in the BEST place ever! Thank you ALL for supporting my project. After feeling very hesitant about starting the school year and not knowing what it will look like, I am excited to have a place to put school supplies. This was one area we currently share. Plus having extra boxes to be able to differentiate reading and math boxes for the students. This will help in my teaching tremendously!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Messner

  • Practice Makes Perfect

    Funded Jul 24, 2018

Thank you so much for supporting my project "Practice Makes Perfect." The students have loved using the whiteboard to practice writing. Some are learning how to draw detailed pictures along with adding words while others are working on writing their name and letters. The whiteboard allow me to be able to differentiate what we are working on. They are quick and easy to use. The erasers are wonderful They allow the students to quickly wipe off what they are working on and start working on something new or make corrections.

The composition books are allowing students to work on writing while I am working with a group. They are individualized to each student and each students is using them at their level.

The book bins allow me to have books at each students level in their book bin. This gives them books to read so they are practicing reading while I can work with small groups.

I have seen growth in my students this year. These supplies allow me to work with the small groups which is allowing me to more tailor my teaching to each student.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Messner

  • Beyond Flexible Seating

    Funded Jul 17, 2018

Thank you so much for supporting my project of Beyond Flexible Seating. We have been using the carpets, trays and clipboards on a daily basis. Students are able to choose their seating for each activity.

The students were so excited to know they could use the carpets to work on a soft surface even if they are on the floor. The students are able to work on a hard surface with the trays even if they are laying on the floor. I have been able to meet the needs of ALL my students.

I will continue to encourage my students to find the seating that works best for them to learn. Many of the students have found a certain type of seating is where they learn best and this was what I was hoping for. They would not have nearly as many choices if it were not for the support of people like you!

Thank you so much for supporting my classroom and students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Messner

Flexible seating is about giving our students choice and power over where they learn and work. I already have flexible seating which allows students to wobble, stand, bounce and sit at low tables. I would like to allow my students to have even more choice in the seating they can choose from. We need bath mats, fast food trays and clipboards. Many young students are used to reading and writing while sitting or lying down on the floor. The bath mats will give students something to use to define their own space when lying down or sitting on the floor. The food trays will give the students a place to contain their work while working beyond tables. The clipboards will give the students a choice of hard surfaces to work on while lying down, sitting or walking around the room.
