  • Supporting Students with Supplies for Home and School

    Funded Jul 27, 2020

Thank you so much of your support of my classroom and my scholars. We are so excited to receive these materials.

This upcoming school year is still up in the air. We may be in person, virtual, or a combination of both. Due to COVID, my scholars need their own individual supplies, as they will not be allowed to share as they have in the past. Therefore, regardless of how we teach, my scholars will be sent home an individual binder, pencil sharpener, and their own white board, marker and eraser. Last spring, the students utilized white boards from home and could show me their work on our Google Meet class meetings. It works the same way if we are in class. They will keep them in their desk and have their own materials for the year.

I am so thankful for everyone's support, including Kleenex, in making sure my students stay safe and healthy with their own individual supplies.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tulgestke

  • 'Ada Twist' Books Support Literacy and STEM During At-Home Learning

    Funded May 28, 2020

Thank you so much for your donations to my project for Ada Twists books. I am so excited to send these to my students so they have a book at home to do some summer reading. The best part is, I know they love this series, so I know they will read it!

Ada Twist is all about asking questions as to why and how something works. They are always scientific questions that she is curious about, sometimes to the annoyance of her brother. He tends to get the brunt of a lot of her experiments while trying to answer her questions, but in a humorous way.

I love reading these books with the kids and listening to their giggles when something funny happens. They get very engaged in these stories, and curious as to what will happen next. I would love to see their faces when these arrive in the mail. Thank you again for helping my students continue to read and develop a love of reading!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tulgestke

  • Adapting to Distance Learning with Teachers Pay Teachers Resources

    Funded May 28, 2020

Thank you so much for donating to my Adapting to Distance Learning Teachers Pay Teachers gift card. Next years school year is so uncertain, that I was able to purchase some reading and math resources that I can use with my students in the event that some of our classroom time is done virtually.

These are items I can upload to my google classroom so the students can see it online and follow along while I'm teaching. If we are lucky enough to be in the classroom full time next year, these resources are easily printed off in hard copy so we can all work together, or in small groups.

Teachers Pay Teachers is such an awesome resource to use both in the classroom, as well as online to keep my students growing and helping them to stay engaged during the lessons. I truly appreciate the support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tulgestke

  • March Is Reading Month! Engaging Readers With Favorite Series

    Funded Mar 5, 2020

Thank you so much for you support of reading in my classroom. A set of books arrived shortly before we closed down due to the corona virus. They were SO excited to see them on my table and begged to borrow one. It's so helpful to find books that they love, to encourage them to read. I'm very sad these books are probably still in their desks, partially read, anticipating coming back to school. I have no doubt these same students will come to me next year and ask to borrow those books since they did not have a chance to finish them.

Again, thank you a ton for supporting my students in their quest to develop a love of reading!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tulgestke

  • 'Science Comics': Graphic Novels Grab Students' Attention

    Funded Mar 3, 2020

Thank you so much for your support of our scholars and of our science curriculum during the #FillEveryShelf campaign! We have received all of our Science Comic Graphic Novels and my scholars couldn't wait to borrow them!

One of my struggling readers was particularly excited when he saw these books on my table. He eagerly picked one and continuously came up to me to show me facts he was learning and would say "Did you know....?" and would read me the fact that intrigued him. He got through one book in two days and quickly grabbed a new one. This was so exciting to me to have books that he, and many of my students, were truly interested in.

So thank you again for supporting my readers and the #FillEveryShelf campaign. I am so grateful to all of you!”

    With gratitude,

  • Can You Hear Me Now?

    Funded Feb 4, 2020

Thank you! We are so grateful to have a class set of earbuds. We were able to provide every scholar with their own pair, and we have some extras to replenish them as needed. They have been so helpful for independent work time on their Chromebooks! Without headphones, scholars would struggle to use academic programs that involved sound, because they felt that they were interrupting other learners. Now, scholars are able to use a variety of academic learning programs, such as Reflex Math, MobyMax, and Epic! books, without worrying about their computer volume. Our independent Chromebook time is much more productive, and the classroom is much quieter, so it is easier for students to focus.

My scholars also love the wobble stool. It, too, has become a great tool for increasing focus. I use it primarily with one scholar, and it has helped him immensely, though most scholars have gotten a chance to try it out.

Thank you again for your support! We appreciate you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tulgestke

My students are a very active bunch. They are always wiggling around. The littlest kids are even more wiggly because their sensory systems are still developing. That’s where ball chairs come in. In response to the ball’s instability and in order to remain balanced while sitting on one, the body instinctively — and continually — engages core muscle groups. Constant movement is required in order to stay seated on the ball. And that movement, however slight, helps them focus. As children learn awareness and body control through movement, they become familiar with following instructions, listening for cues, and respecting others as they move together in the shared space
