Feed the Brain, Inspire the Mind "Food for Thought"
Funded Jan 28, 2022These resources were used to teach the girls that I mentor about healthy eating habits. We began by conducting workshops focusing on the Mind and Body. Our first workshop focused on the mind and changing the mindset of our girls. We focused on the way they move about their day and what they eat. They learned that what they eat could effect their minds and bodies. In the second workshop we studied different foods both healthy and unhealthy. The girls learned by having a balance they will live a better life. Our last workshop focused on self-worth. The girls learned that the way they live effects what they eat and how they habit.
I can tell you that these girls were a little skeptical when they saw the chips and other snacks but, they were willing to try them. Aaniyah said " Eating healthy will impact my life because it can help me reach my goal". Emillianna said" we are appreciative because you guys are trying to keep us healthy and not eat junk food"
Our next steps will be to get more people involved in living a healthy life and eating healthy. We want to plan a health fair for next year and invite professionals to speak and have different hands-on workshops on Mind and Body.”

Funded Dec 5, 2015These resources are used to reward students knowledge. When students help classmates during a lesson or answer questions showing understanding of what they are learning they earn a knowledge point. Students also earned points by showing an act of kindness. When students earn ten knowledge points they go in the box and pick an reward.
Prior to the materials coming I informed students that we were getting rewards for our knowledge box. They were so excited and could not wait to see what was coming. The look on their faces when we received the material made me gleam with joy.
The next for my students is for me to acknowledge their achievements during our stepping up celebrations. Each student will receive a certificate and gift bag to celebrate all of their hard work this year”

Storm Damaged Classroom in Far Rockaway Needs Supplies
Funded Nov 14, 2012Words can not express how thankful I am for the kindness of your donation. The purchase of the learning centers have impacted my class in so many ways. I enjoy watching my students play games and learn at the same time.
These centers impact my students by teaching them how use questioning when they are writing and to reread the question when they loose focus. They use the sequencing activity to learn how to look at the picture and organize a story from beginning to end.
The word games teach students how to read new words that they will see in a story. Also teaches them how to spell words that they will use in their writing. They enjoy challenging each other to see how many words they can find and read.
Students that are learning sequencing are able to use the pictures as guide for their writing. The picture cues show the students what they need to put into their writing
All of the games that students play re-enforce what we are learning in school. For them they are playing games but for me they are learning to read and write
Thank you again for your kindness of giving.”

The way the listening has impacted my students is by teaching them how to read using the stories on Cd's. They read and listen to these stories as much as they can. These stories teach students to read with fluency.
Students enjoy setting up the center and working together as a group. Also these centers teach them how to spell words that they will use in their writing. They enjoy challenging each other to see who can write the most about the story. I watch as students listen and have discussions about the story. It is interesting how much students obtain by listening to a story.

Funded Feb 29, 2012On behalf of my students and myself I can not think you enough for your kindness. The dry erase boards and markers are used in my class everyday. I slowly introduced the material to the class and word got around fast about the new things in our class. It amazed me how excited my students were to write and solve math problems using these tools. The lines allowed students to write straight and stay on lines . We use the boards and marker for writing our alphabet, words, writing sentences and completing math problems,
During words study students use the boards and markers to read and write sight words. They also write words that begin with the letters of the alphabets. This allows them to share their new words with their classmates. Also during group lesson students listen for the sounds in words that i say and write them on their boards this allows me to check students work and see who is having difficulty.
During our writing lessons students practice writing sentences using words they learned. They read the sentences and make correction in spelling, This prepares them for writing in their notebooks.
We use the boards during math lessons to practice writing addition problems, subtraction problems, writing numbers and shapes. They also use the boards during center time to write and solve domino math problems.
In closing this is a gift the keeps on giving and will be used for many years to come, The board will be used from the first day of school to the end of school for reading , writing, and mathematics”

Funded May 5, 2006I cannot thank you enough for providing my young readers with a means of finding new words. My students love to read and they always ask me how to spell. By using our new dictionaries they will be able to look up the words by sounding them out. Students will use these dictionaries for independent lessons such as writing sentences and words study. The skill of using dictionaries is not something students will use once but it is a life long skill. Your kind gift will be used for years to come. Every year I use these dictionaries in my class I will be reminded of the caring person who gave them to my class.
