My students attend a public Montessori school in a high poverty neighborhood. We have a very diverse student population and all students receive free breakfast, lunch and a healthy snack each day. Within our school community, we follow the teachings of Maria Montessori, who believed; "The teacher's task is first to nourish and assist, to watch, encourage, guide and induce rather than interfere, prescribe, or restrict.
We respect individuality and foster a love of learning as we guide children toward independence and self discipline.
Our school serves students from preschool to eighth grade and my classroom is a multi-aged, multi-ability environment for first through third graders. Children can work alone, with a partner, or in collaborative groups as they complete individualized plans for independent work. My students have organizational and problem solving skills that rival those of many adults!
