Quality Science Materials For Middle Schoolers
Funded Sep 5, 2024This project was mostly about classroom materials but they weren't just ANY classroom materials. It is very important for me to provide my students with materials that are appealing, bright colors, laminated, teacher-created specifically for them, but also show them that we can have "nice things". My kids hear too often about everything they "lack", all the things our school, our community, our classroom is "missing". I want to change that narrative starting for a nice and clean space, for brand new materials that we commit to take good care of.
I also put a lot of my personal time modifying materials so that they target the unique needs of students in front of me, but I want these materials to last and be able to reuse or edit them for the future. In my classroom we are also learning to be caring to the environment, so having good quality stuff that last a long time is important for me. tha
Thanks to you and your generous support, we received what we needed when the project was fully funded.”

Funded Sep 14, 2024At the very beginning of the school year I asked my students how they envisioned our classroom to look like, feel like, and sound like. So many students said they wanted a nice, clean, organized space. Although I try to keep our classroom clean, because I think science, space is tight and it is difficult for me to find a spot for everything we have in the classroom.
I spent a lot of time organizing the chemicals and the school supplies, but I needed a space for item we use frequently. A space accessible to students but also appealing. Moreover, we had a few old, in rough shape, and not always working headphones.
Thanks to your kind support, my students had an area of the classroom where the brand new headphones are available to them, we keep them nice and organized and the colorful designs make the classroom look better.
Thank you so much! I wouldnt had been able to achieve this if it wasnt for you.”

Let's Do Science Like Scientists Do!
Funded May 16, 2023My students are used to hear about the things they do not have, how our schools lack talent, funding, supplies, and quality equipment among others. I am determined to change the narrative. I tell my students they have a well rounded, educated, and experience science teacher, that we have top of the line science materials, a carefully chosen science curriculum, and smart, inquisitive, and talented students, scientists in the making. You can almost see their faces lighting up when they hear all the positives we have instead of all the things we lack.
Thank you for your support, you have made a difference for my and my students.”

Funded Aug 31, 2020This project allowed my students to experience hands-on science during the pandemic. By providing them with a goodie bag filled with the science materials we were going to be using during our remote lessons, students had a chance to be active participants.
That stage is now in the past, but the learning will last thanks to your support! Now that we are back in the building, I see many of my old students and they all have fond memories of doing science over zoom. I am glad we were able to brighten their day a little bit!”

Essential Hands-on Science Items for Remote Learning
Funded Sep 10, 2020Once again, I am so grateful for choosing to fund my project. It has been a long process that started during the summer, when I sorted the materials I already had and purchased those that were hard to get. I carefully selected the materials that I was missing and that would cause the greatest impact on my students hands on experience, but that also were appropriate to send home (photo 1).
Once the materials were chosen, I wrote the project and waiting for someone to notice it. And that's when you came along! I was so excited when my project got funded, but I think my students and their caregivers were even more excited when they came to school, and following the social distancing protocols and mask wearing, picked up the large bag of goodies to bring home (photo 5).
What was happening behind the scenes, was a lot of prep work as evidenced in photos 2-4: sorting and repackaging the materials, making the kits, writing the instructions in both Spanish and English, printing in color. It was a lot of extra work, but the result was worth it! My students were very excited to open their kits and get to work (photo 6). You made this possible!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Chaverri
