  • Stand Up for Virtual Teaching

    Thank you so much for your generosity!

    The desk and fatigue mat are fantastic. It's been a great relief on my back and knees having the ability to either sit or stand.

    It's very easy to move the desk up and down and at different levels.

    It has been a especially helpful the days that I stay after for tutoring - a super long day but the fatigue mat helps me keep going during tutoring. The kids appreciate all the extra support that they receive after school.

    I will continue to use them during the summer. I have quite a few days of professional development.”

  • Snacks BOOST Brain Power

    We would like to thank you for your generosity. Unfortunately due to Covid-19 the school was closed and students weren't able to received the snacks.

    My students have seen the snacks that came in and they are very excited to get them.

    I have created individual bags with snacks for my students. As soon as the school office is open , the students will be able to come to the school to pick up their individual snack bag.

    Due to the current situation in Los Angeles with Covid-19, many of the families are suffering financially and the students were grateful that they receive these snacks.”

  • Capturing the Minds of Youth

    I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the document camera. It's amazing and has changed my ability to support my students.

    I am able to write on my paper which then projects on the Zoom screen. It is especially useful for reteaching math concepts and for providing examples especially in Algebra 2 where there are several steps to one problem.

    Not only have I used the camera in my class but also in my co-teaching classes where I have a few students in a breakout room.

    One of my student in Algebra 2 has voiced how document camera has made a difference in the support that I provide.

    Every chance I get I pull out the document camera.

    I would also like to thank you for the file folders. It has helped me organize my students' work and teacher feedback forms. When we return back to school, I will be able to easily transfer these folders to their files at school.

    Thank you so much for you donation. The chromebooks have helped my students have access fast technology. They are able to work on the many platforms such as Google Classroom to access their work.

    When they walk into my classroom, they request to use the new chromebooks. They are so excited to use them since they are so much more efficient than the outdated laptops.

    One particular student, is often the first one to come to my desk everyday to request to use the chromebook.

  • Healthy Snacks for the Brain

    My students truly appreciate the generosity of all the donors. They are so happy that there's snacks available to them to help them focus but also satisfy their hunger. Once they receive a snack, they are able to concentrate and get right to work on their assignments. When we first opened the boxes, they couldn't believe the variety of snacks that were donated. Their favorites were the fruit snacks and the goldfish.

    The other day in the class I co- teach in, one of my students got my attention and whispered "goldfish ...goldfish." After class, she stopped by to get goldfish. Another student is sincerely thankful for the donation because he has a sensitive stomach and isn't able to eat anything.

  • 21st Century Learners Need Supplies for Academic Success

    Funded Dec 6, 2019

    Thank you for the donation. The first week back from winter break, I was helping a student start off the year organized with a binder. The binders are one of the most essential items that students need and the most costly as well. It's also great to have writing utensils available for them when they need them.

    When I spread out the supplies on the table, many of my students were so surprised by all the items. They find it hard to believe that people are so generous.

    Once again, thank you for your generosity. The supplies will help my students get through this school and hopefully through the beginning of the next one. Truly grateful especially since our school has a limited amount of funds.”

  • Reading Through a Rainbow of Colors

    Funded Oct 24, 2019

    Thank you for donating the colored overlays and reading rulers. I learned about the colored overlays when I was a teachers assistant. Recently the district has brought more attention to dyslexia.I knew that some of my students struggled to read.

    I had them try the reading rules first using the suggested colors by the manufacturer. The reading rulers also helps kids track as they read. It has been a blessing to have them available to my students.

    One student in particular was desperately struggling with reading in her English class and was the first to find the color that helped her. Another student that loves to read but struggles saw the difference in his reading with the reading ruler.

    Another student was so surprised at how just by reading with color helped him. He uses both the reading ruler and the overlays. He also uses them when he's working on an online class. One student commented "...I began to read more and it would help me focus more when reading."

    I will continue to observe and asses my students in my classes and on my case load. Of course this is part of my job but it makes it so much easier to have these tools available. We are very fortunate to receive this donation when our school doesn't have funds.”

  • Healthy Snacks for Students From Low Income Families

    Thank you for your generous donation! The students were very excited when they found out that the project was funded but were ecstatic when they saw the packages of snacks. When they come to class, ask for a snacks and they get right to work.The snacks have been a blessing for these hungry teens. The granola bars and the fruit snacks were the favorites.

    Since we all want to stay healthy, the disinfecting wipes are great with keeping our room clean and free of germs especially with flu season.”

Our school's population of students come from low income families and may have free or reduced lunch. I've been a resource teacher at Cortines School of VAPA since 2012. My students are in 9th - 12th grade and have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). They show great perseverance despite their disabilities.
