This is the FIRST year our middle school has offered a STEM curriculum. Our students are so excited to have a class where they can build and design and create new things. Their creative ideas are by far exceeding the supplies and tools I currently have to put into their hands. They bring items from home, we beg for donations from the community, and I purchase most of our items with my own personal money. We would be so appreciative of any items that we could receive. Creativity is just as important in education as literacy. Our students spent most of their time at school reading, writing, and computing. STEM offers them a chance to apply the knowledge they are gaining in their academic classes and think outside of the box. It allows them to work with others to dream up new things that don't exist and make their unique versions of them. Without tools and supplies, my students cannot create many things. The parrot drones can be coded in Google Workbench which is a coding application they are learning to use. The rivets and motors and glue and clay and other building supplies will allow them to physically build the items they are designing in class on our "Maker Mondays." The storage bins will help us to store the materials we are using each day and to keep them within our reach. By providing us with basic STEM supplies you are giving these kids an opportunity to invent, experiment, grow, take risks, make mistakes, and have fun at school!
