  • Earth Day Is Every Day!

    Funded Jun 5, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting our young climate change activists as we try to "green-ify" our school. The new, smaller charging station will be replacing a 36-device charging cart. Since we only have five Chromebooks, powering the big charger is a huge waste of electricity. The new charger will help us lower our carbon footprint.

Students love seeing photos of themselves on the walls. Any time I can show them doing work and having fun, it's a call to action for my other students to get involved. I hope to promote tons of green events using the digital picture frame in my classroom!

The perpetual motion machine and engine model are great ways to get students interested in using STEM to solve problems. They inspire curiosity about how things work and get them thinking. Any hook I can use to get them to take chances and make mistakes is one I want to exploit.

Your donation of toner and laminating sheets helps us keep important papers protected after we print them so we don't have to use as much paper in the future.

Thanks again for supporting our green school initiative!”

  • Cheetah Prize-a-Palooza!

    Funded Jun 29, 2023

Thank you so much for providing incentives and motivational prizes and snacks to my middle-school STEAM students! I'm trying my best to capture their attention and bring out their best behaviors while at school, but it's sometimes tough going, to say the least. Having prizes they can earn for being on task, working together respectfully, cleaning up after themselves, listening, etc. gives them reasons to stay on track during class. It also helps them "save face" with their friends if they're known for being class clowns. I can say without a doubt that even the most accomplished class clown would rather get a prize than cause a disruption in class.

I've had great luck with my prize cart and am now expanding it to include whole-class incentives, too. Thanks again for supporting the behavior management techniques I have had to develop with post-pandemic students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Chamberlain Engel

  • STEAMy Simple Machines!

    Funded Mar 18, 2023

Thank you so much for donating these terrific resources to our classroom! With these additional items, students will be able to use a jigsaw, lathe, drill press, and sander with just one kid-friendly tool! This year, we will be able to work with balsa wood when we build projects instead of using corrugated and cardboard exclusively, which will result in sturdier project builds. The kids really enjoyed putting the solar system puzzle together last year and even if it doesn't work exactly as it's supposed to, they learned a lot about gears from putting it together. The maze and Rubik's cube are very popular items when students are finished with their work early. We plan to put the trebuchet together sometime this upcoming school year. Thanks again for these wonderful models and tools to help students learn new skills and reach new heights with their projects.”

  • SEL: Beyond the Masks

    Funded Mar 21, 2023

Thank you for all these wonderful games you donated to my middle school technology classes. They really loved them! When classes follow my classroom rules as a group, free game time is extremely motivating to them. They loved playing soccer, catch, and ring toss outdoors on nice days, and they loved playing ping pong and card games on days when it was too hot or too cold to go outside. Offering class incentives like this helps me keep students engaged in class as well as helps keep their behavior in check. No one likes to miss out on incentives like free time!

Thanks again for helping me keep my students focused on academics and goals. In the age of smartphones and Chromebooks, it's not easy to pull their focus away from games, TikTok, and social media! This project was truly a game-changer!”

  • Surprise Us With Supplies!

    Funded Apr 11, 2023

Thank you so much for the supply boxes, tape refills, Post-Its, and snacks. Those snacks flew off the shelves and are already wiped out! The end of the year is particularly challenging to keep students focused due to the really strong, widespread bouts of Spring Fever! Luckily, your snacks arrived just in time to reward on-task behavior and keep students motivated to persist through the end the year. We use a lot of tape in our class, and this new supply came just in the nick of time! The supply boxes will help me keep all our materials organized and easy to find, which is a huge requirement for a supply-heavy, project-based learning classroom. Thanks again for helping restock our FUNctional classroom!”

  • Operation Hydration

    Funded Apr 11, 2023

Thank you so much for your kind donations to my middle school technology classroom. These resources came in very handy at the end of the school year, when students were busily creating climate change presentation boards. Some of them loved adding watercolors to their presentations while others preferred the oil pastels. The grabber proved useful for retrieving items that fall behind an old cubicle wall behind our student desks, too!

The most appreciated resource, however, was the water. It's getting hotter and hotter during the early summer months, and there are no nearby water fountains near my classroom. Students were very happy not to have to make that long, hot walk to the water fountain on blazing hot days. They ended up going through that water quickly, although we did have enough to make it to the last week of school.

Thanks again for supporting my students' artistic endeavors as well as their physical health!”

  • Spring Fever

    Funded Apr 21, 2023

Thank you so much for donating these useful items to our middle school STEM classroom. The school year is coming to an end and students are excited! They're so excited, in fact, that sometimes they need to run around outside and get some energy out. It's important that I be able to call them back to the classroom at a moment's notice, so having the Bluetooth speaker and the megaphone allow me to communicate outdoors over a distance so that students know when they need to return to the classroom.

The nameplates will be a great resource next year: I plan to laminate them, affix them to the desks, and have students write their names in dry-erase markers. This will help me to learn their names, and they will have a reference to review the cursive alphabet, place value, fractions, multiplication table, and a ruler all in one handy-dandy resource. The glue guns were a necessary replacement for the glue guns we've lost this year to old age. Thanks again for helping us keep our feet on the gas pedal all the way until the end of the school year!”

  • Keep Calm and Snack On!

    Funded Feb 16, 2023

Thank you so much for donating these snacks and prizes to my middle school engineering classroom! Nothing motivates my students more than yummy snacks and fun prizes they can buy with our classroom currency, ACE-bucks. This is my first time fully committing to a classroom store and an official individual-student and whole-class incentive system.

After studying various classroom management strategies, I decided to launch my new system in January. It has worked brilliantly! I am able to reward students for participation, turning in work, behaving responsibly, being kind to others, cleaning and organizing our classroom, and more! At the classroom level, I can incent quiet, paying attention, being on time, remaining seated until the bell, and much more! Even better, my classes are eager to do these things because they know they'll be rewarded with items they truly want—and they don't mind telling their classmates to do the same.

Whether it's a sticky hand, a stress ball, a snack, an eraser, or a calming sticker, they're all in for prizes! Few of my students can resist the power of the class store!

Thanks so much for these game-changing resources: they have been a powerful force for good and have been instrumental in recovering from the pandemic's effect on expected school behaviors. Most students continue to struggle with school expectations since our return to in-person learning and these incentives really help them focus and stay on track.”

  • Do You Still Copy?

    Funded May 2, 2023

Thank you for donating these boxes of paper to our middle school! Every April, we seem to run out of paper—and funding—no matter what we do. Your donation ensures that we will be able to teach right up until the end of the school year. We'll even have enough paper to start printing copies for our classes starting in the fall, too. We were in a real bind here!

Thanks to you, it's going to be (mostly) smooth sailing until the end of this school year. We truly appreciate you coming to our rescue because a school without paper is basically a building with not much learning going on!”

  • Do You Copy?

    Funded Apr 20, 2023

Thank you so much for restocking our paper supply! Our middle school was in dire straits: we were almost out of paper and we were definitely out of money in our budget, which is, sadly, a frequent occurrence when April rolls around. Without paper, we wouldn't have been able to finish the school year on a strong note. Math, history, science, and English all require paper so teachers have primary sources, text for students to read, math problems to solve, and science experiments to set up and observe. In other words, paper is the fuel that powers our school and we couldn't educate our students without it! Thanks so much for giving us this all-important resource so we can finish the year strong and also be prepared for the first day of school this fall!”

Thank you for stopping by my project page! I know there are many worthy classrooms here at DonorsChoose.org and am especially grateful for the support my students and I have and continue to receive from generous donors like you! I am blessed to have a lively 7th and 8th grade technology class where I teach computer applications, technology, and STEAM. I am putting together a makerspace where students can create unique prototypes using both low- and high-tech materials. For example, students could create a "living masterpiece" artwork, where the subject's eyes move back and forth using a Microbit or Raspberry Pi and a servo motor or an interactive monster that is coded to move in response to touch, voice, or movement prompts. I can't wait to see what my students can create with the amazing resources you've helped provide us!
