  • Let's Learn to Read English!

    Funded Sep 14, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous support of my classroom. I can honestly say that the students love the DK readers library that you donated. They read these books constantly; they are the go-to books every single time students self-select a book to read. The breadth of the nonfiction topics as well as the easy-to-understand levels clearly labeled on the covers make this library really user-friendly for these beginning English language learners. The clearly labeled pictures help expand their vocabulary and the multiple readings help them gain automaticity with those difficult English sight words.

Again, thank you so much for making a difference. My students will be enjoying these books for many years to come. Donations like yours help offset the constant cuts being made to our school programs.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Chamberlain Engel

  • 2nd/3rd Graders in Desperate Need of Equipment

    Funded Dec 23, 2008

My students will be so excited to hear that we can bring big books back into our classroom! They've been sitting in another room gathering dust all year. They'll also love having a listening center again. It will not only help them enjoy stories, but it's a great way for them to improve their word recognition and literacy skills during center time. The privacy shields will be very useful during the multitude of tests they have to take. Thanks so much for making such a wonderful contribution! We're very grateful for your generosity”

  • Crazy Science Stuns Third Grade!!!

    Funded Jun 5, 2008

I am so grateful and excited to have these science materials for the students in my classroom! My class adores science because it offers them a window of discovery into their world. Whether it's studying magnets, learning about weather, or studying the solar system, my students are enthralled with the hands-on learning that studying science allows them. I can't wait for the fall so I can see their faces light up when they see the new science center I'm going to create using these materials!

Thank you so very much for helping the students at Markham learn while doing something they love to do: discover!!!! We are grateful, and will write student thank you when I have a new crop of minds in the fall.

    Thanks again!!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Chamberlain Engel

Thank you for stopping by my project page! I know there are many worthy classrooms here at DonorsChoose.org and am especially grateful for the support my students and I have and continue to receive from generous donors like you! I am blessed to have a lively 7th and 8th grade technology class where I teach computer applications, technology, and STEAM. I am putting together a makerspace where students can create unique prototypes using both low- and high-tech materials. For example, students could create a "living masterpiece" artwork, where the subject's eyes move back and forth using a Microbit or Raspberry Pi and a servo motor or an interactive monster that is coded to move in response to touch, voice, or movement prompts. I can't wait to see what my students can create with the amazing resources you've helped provide us!
