  • Push Our Buttons!

    Funded May 23, 2018

Thank you so much for donating this button maker to our classroom! My students really loved designing and making their own buttons. In fact, a few of them flexed their entrepreneurial muscles and sold anime buttons to the entire school during our last two weeks of the year. Two students in particular came in during lunch and after school to make buttons that their classmates had pre-ordered. Since it was the end of the year, they had plans to buy their own button maker so they could continue their new business when they enter high school. Thanks to you, these two young women discovered their power to create art—and opportunities—for themselves! My future Home Ec students will also be able to benefit from this button maker in the upcoming school year as well. Thank you!”

  • Keep Our Kitchen Humming!

    Funded Apr 18, 2018

Thank you so much for providing these new materials for our school kitchen! The new knives are terrific, much better than the flimsy ones we began the school year with. These knives have been ergonomic handles and blades to help our sous chefs prep ingredients. Having better knives helps students be able to chop and mince with smaller chance of injury. The metal measuring cups also replace the flimsy plastic measuring cups we began the year with. Those original measuring cups almost immediately had their handles snap off when we were measuring ingredients. These sturdy metal ones are much better for scooping and measuring all dry ingredients. Last but not least, the whiteboard film is going to allow me to turn a few wooden cabinet doors into a whiteboard message space. Our kitchen classroom only has blackboards that a 7 foot tall person can write on. Having accessible white board space will let me write important messages in several places in the classroom without having to climb the countertops. Thank you—I'm not as agile as I used to be!”

  • Less Kitsch, More Kitchen!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for donating these decorative items to our Home Economics kitchen! The hand-washing signs and motivational posters look fab, and the vegetables and spices posters are an educational and attractive way to spruce up our kitchen space. By far and away, our favorite thing is the neon light up menu board! Students love it because they can see the instructions clearly and draw on it sometimes, and I love it because it's an eye-catching way to give my visual learners instructions. I'm planning a massive redesign of the Home Economics room this summer, and all of these items will really make a much more streamlined and pleasing space when year two of Home EC begins in the fall. Thank you!”

  • The Little Things: A Kitchen Story, Part IV

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for helping supply our Home Economics kitchen! Just a few weeks ago, one of my accident-prone students burned himself (again), this time on a hot pan. Before this project funded, we didn't have any burn gel, so at the time we had to use antibiotic ointment and a bandage, which didn't help his burn feel better. With the new supplies for our first aid kit, we can take care of burns and cuts effectively. The tissues have been used a ton now that we're in allergy and sneezing season. We are constantly cleaning, of course, so resupplying our cleaning supplies is always important, too. Last but not least, the food storage containers and Ziploc bags you donated helped students be able to store and/or take food home to share with their families. Thanks so much for making our Home Economics program such a fun and enriching opportunity for our middle-school students!”

  • We Wish Jammin' Was a Thing of the Past!

    Funded Apr 23, 2018

Thank you for donating this new color laser printer to our classroom! Our old printer was jamming every time we printed, which was a huge pain that really slowed us down and made getting assignments done extremely difficult. Now, we can print with ease from several computers in beautiful living color! We really appreciate having this amazing resource available in our classroom. It's even equipped with AirPrint and Google Print so we can send jobs from our Chromebooks! That's a huge step toward the 21st century, and it wouldn't have been possible without your support!”

  • It's Totally Tool and Trackpad Time!

    Funded Apr 24, 2018

Thank you so much for the toolbox, Sterlite storage containers, and trackball mouse! Students will be able to use the toolbox to make small repairs for teachers and staff around the school as well as check it out to take home and make small repairs as well. The Sterlite containers will help us organize our fabrics by type such as cotton or stretch so it will be easier to find the correct type we need when we begin a new sewing project. The trackball mouse will make it easier to use our new laptop. The trackpad on the laptop is too sensitive and always reads a right click when a left click is desired!

Thank you for supporting our classroom with these wonderful new items!”

  • Digital Diaries for Digital Natives!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for supporting our middle-school scholars with this new laptop! Our Chromebooks are great, but they don't have the computing power to edit photos and produce quality layouts. Our next endeavor will be creating digital diaries for our "Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" companion projects. These projects will give students a chance to think about their roles within the communities they are part of. Using this laptop, they will be able to digitally create their own personal stories to share. I know they will benefit from seeing themselves as members of multiple communities and from telling their own stories using this fabulous new laptop!”

  • "Chair-ity" Begins at Home... Or in the Classroom!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Talk about serendipity! My fourth period class has been playing a sad game of musical chairs all year, with the last person to arrive in the classroom left with the least desirable chair. These four new chairs will finally put an end to the chair shuffle, and it couldn't have happened at a better time: We get two new students when we get back from spring break! Now, even my new pupils will have a good chair to sit on. And I'll be glad to have the chair trading stop so we can begin class on time.

Thank you for helping my students be able to sit and learn comfortably!”

  • The Little Things: A Kitchen Story, Part VI

    Funded Feb 26, 2018

Thank you so much for donating these kitchen tools to us! You've made our kitchen a much more student friendly place by providing these ice cream scoops, tongs, scrapers, cooling racks, Ziploc bags, and large floor fan. The skillets are such a huge improvement from the old ones we had that would burn things the second we added them. It was hard teaching my students how to cook with our previous thin, shoddy skillets. It's easy to get discouraged when everything you cook burns! Thanks for helping replace those terrible skillets -- you've helped my middle-school students learn about nutrition and basic cooking!”

  • Spice It Up!

    Funded Jan 14, 2018

Thanks once more for providing my students with the joy—yes, joy!—of cooking in our Home Economics elective. Every time we cook, students get experience with how to follow directions—or how to use use critical-thinking skills about how to solve the problems that arise from 𝑛𝑜𝑡 following the directions! They also get experience in measurements, anticipating chemical reactions, and more. The pressure cooker will help us cook a variety of items (including homemade Greek yogurt) within the one-hour time frame of our class. And the spices will help my spicy-food-loving students create recipes with a more powerful flavor punch! Thank you so much for making our classroom an exciting and learning-rich environment!”

Thank you for stopping by my project page! I know there are many worthy classrooms here at DonorsChoose.org and am especially grateful for the support my students and I have and continue to receive from generous donors like you! I am blessed to have a lively 7th and 8th grade technology class where I teach computer applications, technology, and STEAM. I am putting together a makerspace where students can create unique prototypes using both low- and high-tech materials. For example, students could create a "living masterpiece" artwork, where the subject's eyes move back and forth using a Microbit or Raspberry Pi and a servo motor or an interactive monster that is coded to move in response to touch, voice, or movement prompts. I can't wait to see what my students can create with the amazing resources you've helped provide us!
