Pump Up the Clean!
Funded Sep 4, 2020Thank you so much for the hand sanitizer touchless dispenser and the anti-viral Kleenez! Although we are still in distance learning mode, we keep hearing that we may soon transition to a hybrid learning model. My students and I crave our return to in-person learning, although we all share similar fears about our and our loved ones' safety. Having a touchless hand sanitizer dispenser and a supply of antiviral tissues makes us feel like we will be better able to protect ourselves and our families when we finally are able to return to school. Our Title I school district doesn't have the funds (so far) to add the safety features and supplies that are going to be necessary to protect us all from the novel coronavirus and COVID-19. Thanks again for supporting our health and peace of mind as we contemplate our impending return to school!”

Funded Aug 12, 2020Thank you so much for the pandemic protection supply infusion! Although we are still in distance learning mode, we keep hearing that we may soon transition to a hybrid learning model. My students and I crave our return to in-person learning, although we all share similar fears about our and our loved ones' safety. Having medical-grade air filters, face shields and masks, a UV light disinfecting wand, antiviral tissues, vinyl gloves, and hand sanitizer makes us feel like we will be better able to protect ourselves and our families when we finally are able to return to school. Our Title I school district doesn't have the funds (so far) to add the safety features and supplies that are going to be necessary to protect us all from the novel coronavirus. Funded Aug 11, 2020Thank you so much for the mobile whiteboard easel. It's so helpful to show our daily schedule so students know what we're doing during class for the day. It's also going to come in really handy when I start teaching financial literacy. My students need a lot of help with calculating percentages, so showing them the steps is crucial to their understanding of interest, credit, and more. Math really requires visual models so students can understand the step involved in the problems.
Thanks again for making our virtual classroom a more effective place for distance learning!”

Funded Jul 13, 2020Thank you so much for these four Cuisinart ice cream makers, four sets of cutting boards, and the manual and electric can openers. My middle-school students love to cook! I have them make healthy recipes for three-quarters of the year, but they clamor to make desserts as soon as we go to the kitchen. With these ice cream makers, we will be able to make healthier versions of gelatos, ice creams, and sorbets with less added sugar and no preservatives. I think they'll be very excited to get these appliances out and learn how to use them when we return to school. As for the other supplies, some students have a hard time opening cans with manual openers, so the electric opener will be helpful for those who struggle with fine motor skills. The cutting board sets will be extremely useful at our new prep tables. . It's been quite a crush in the kitchen with 8 to 9 students trying to cook in each of our four small galley kitchens. Now, I can have a small group of students "peel off" to the prep tables to do their mise en place. Thanks again for making our kitchen more functional and student-friendly!”

Creative Entrepreneurs
Funded Jun 15, 2020Thank you so much for funding our project. My students love to create things and don't always get the hand-on projects they crave. This project underwent some changes after it was funded: the button machine was no longer available, so I instead got extra sticker makers, sticker paper refills, paper punches, and even magnetic sheets so we can make fridge magnets. I know they're going to love learning how to make stickers, and I plan to add a button maker with my next project so they have plenty to keep their hands busy when we finally return to school. Thanks again for your kindness during these uncertain times!”

Keep Computer Class Alive!
Funded Jun 27, 2020Thank you for supporting me in my quest to become a fully credentialed single-subject computer science/business teacher. I'm very excited to begin teaching my second year of computers! Distance learning is a tough assignment, so I'm glad that I had last year to learn the Code.org curriculum and feel more comfortable with my CS skills. My new batch of students is starting off the year learning how to use Google Apps since those skills will be critical to their distance-learning success. As soon as they feel comfortable completing and tracking their assignments on their Chromebooks, we will begin to explore computational thinking, problem-solving, coding, debugging, and many other important computer science skills. Thanks for giving my students and me the opportunity to have an elective that sets them up for success in the 21st century!”

Choices and Financial Literacy
Funded Aug 20, 2020Thank you so much for funding our subscription to Choices magazine! Thanks to you, all my students will be able to have their own copy of the physical magazine as well as full access to the digital version that they can access while participating in distance learning. The thing I love most about Choices magazine is that it supports students' social-emotional learning that is sometimes a bit overlooked in academic curriculum. There is a strong focus on developing resilience, gratitude, responsibility, citizenship, etiquette, and personal finance. These important topics are introduced using kid-friendly, engaging photos, graphics, resources, videos, and more. I plan to use this resource with all my students this year!”

Funded May 6, 2020Thank you so much for funding my emergency teaching credential for the 2020-2021 school year! Because of your generosity, I will be able to teach computer science this year while I finish up my single-subject credential at Simpson University. I am so happy to teach this important subject: it's my goal to encourage more girls and Latinx students to go into computer science. I don't think the American dream can truly happen for ALL Americans until there is equity in STEM careers for women and minorities. Every school should have computer science classes, no matter what the socioeconomics of the surrounding neighborhood are. Thanks again!”

Funded Jun 12, 2020Thanks for providing great digital resources for my students and me. No one knows when we'll be back in school again, and virtual instruction is a new game for us all. Obviously, we are all anxious about exposure to COVID-19 given the steep increase in the number of cases in our country. Our Bay Area county is on the watchlist of rising infections, so we will be starting with distance learning for at least the first month. Most public school teachers have never started a year via distance learning, which raises many questions: How do we create a classroom community? How do we get to know our students? What lessons will be engaging enough to keep them interested? Given the diversity of our learners, how can we assign independent work that is in the right zone for each of them?
While there are still plenty of unanswered questions about how to improve distance learning in the fall, I'm sure of one thing: These resources are going to help tremendously! My home economics and computer science students will benefit from the engaging projects, WebQuests, and role-plays that I purchased from Teachers Pay Teachers with your help. Thanks again!”
