  • The Joy of Making

    Funded Sep 2, 2021

Thank you so much for donating these marvelous supplies to our classroom! Because of your donation, my students will be able to create circuits with lights using the Chibitronics stickers and copper tape. Using these materials, we can create light-up cards and other fun projects with lights. This Friday, students will be making light-up, pop-up Halloween cards, and I know they'll have a blast!

Thanks also for the Cricut tools and supplies. We love our Cricut for making posters, signs, t-shirts, and more, but we couldn't make anything without these supplies. Thanks again for your generous support—my students and I are so grateful!”

  • Representation Matters!

    Funded Sep 16, 2021

Thank you so much for donating these gift cards to Teachers Pay Teachers! It's a wonderful resource to have because I can choose meaningful activities that are engaging and teacher-created. There were many resources for creating multicultural displays for my technology classroom. I also picked up some wonderful 3D printing resources so students can begin to design their own toys and products. I will be using these resources all year long and in the years to come. Thanks again for supporting middle school students in Hayward, CA!”

  • For the Love of Study

    Funded Aug 24, 2021

Thank you so much for giving our classroom this subscription to Study.com. Our students have some disadvantages that can affect their learning—and that was BEFORE Covid. Whether their delays are due to language barriers, attention issues, processing deficits, or trauma from adverse childhood experiences, my students are further behind than ever due to the 18 months of disengaged virtual learning.

Study.com has a truly impressive list of classes and lessons that can support students in ALL subject areas. I can assign support lessons in any subject and give them extension activities when they are caught up.

Thanks again for supporting these deserving kids who just want a chance to succeed in life!”

  • Let That Sink In!

    Funded Jun 4, 2021

Well, this project has been a long and winding road since it was funded before summer, so let me explain what happened. The sink I had ordered was never delivered and, because of the recent global supply chain disruptions, it was not in stock and impossible to find a similarly priced replacement. Therefore, I decided to pursue another project that I hope you will agree is an exciting opportunity for my students' growth and learning in computer science.

I have an old, broken motherboard of my son's I keep in my classroom that students are simply fascinated with. Every day, they come into class and play with the clips that hold the fan, remove the CPU, and check out the different ports and RAM cards. Instead of the sink, I was able to use these funds to purchase all the parts to build our own gaming PC. Although we are still waiting for the CPU to arrive (again, due to supply chain issues), we now have RAM, a motherboard, a case, graphics cards, fans, and everything we need to build a great PC.

Best of all, my students are THRILLED that they will be building a computer during class. Every day, they ask me: Is the CPU here yet?

This is a golden opportunity to teach them how PC components work together and what role each one plays in the computer. They'll also be able to troubleshoot potential problems better and gain an appreciation of the complexity of computers. Hands-on practice is so valuable for computer science. Also, we will have an amazing computer to use once we're done building it.

Thanks again for your support, and I hope you feel that your donation was well spent on this unique learning opportunity! I hope to send out some photos that will show how truly excited they are to build this PC!”

  • Upping the Ante

    Funded Aug 13, 2021

Thank you so much for providing these incentive gift cards to my students! I recently gave out gift cards to students who designed a flyer for Bike to School Day. The two girls who won the contest were thrilled to receive $10 Starbucks cards and a certificate for best design. I'm not sure I would have gotten half the buy-in if the flyer had been a traditional assignment.

My students don't always have a lot of spending money, so getting a gift card to local restaurants is a big deal for them. I'm looking forward to finding more opportunities to award more gift cards to my fabulous students! Thanks again!”

  • Going Clear!

    Funded May 24, 2021

Thank you so much for supporting my effort to obtain my single-subject business credential. This credential allows me to continue teaching computer science at the secondary level. All it took was passing the California Subject Exam for Teachers, taking a computer science methodology class at Simpson University, and paying the fee for the credential. (Not too bad, but that test wasn't much fun!)

I couldn't have done it without your help! Now, I am cleared to teach business and computer science for the next five years and don't have to worry about needing emergency credentials to teach it anymore.

I really appreciate your support, as I hope to create the next generation of tech wizards who can use computer science to help solve our most pressing problems, such as climate change. Thanks again!”

  • Covid Classroom Basics, Part 2

    Funded Sep 2, 2021

Thank you so much for providing our classroom with these terrific materials! For the first few weeks of school, students created characters out of cardboard and then used them in some stop motion animated movies that they created. The ring lights worked really well as camera tripods and the lights helped get a more professional look. The heavy-duty scissors were very helpful as we were cutting and creating our cardboard creatures. The other items like Kleenex, paper towels, batteries, supply organizer, notebooks, and markers all make our classroom a more organized, clean, and functional place to learn. We really appreciate your support and hope to accomplish great things this year because of your support. Thanks again!”

  • COVID Classroom Basics

    Funded Aug 5, 2021

Thank you so much for helping us start off the year right! Our materials have arrived and we've already been using them. The air duster will help us keep our computers and desktops free of dust. Pencils are always a necessary supply so having a big box of them is truly a life-saver! We are going to attempt to make some stop-motion animations using the modeling clay and the make your own movie activity kit. Students are really looking forward to that! We are hopeful that the Microban spray, Kleenex, and the masks will help us stay healthy so we don't have to shut down again. Thanks again for donating supplies that my students can use to express their creativity, stay clean, and keep our learning going!”

  • Incentivizing Effort

    Funded Jun 19, 2021

Thank you so much for providing my classroom with prizes and snacks that will be incentives to engage and compete in my class. After 18 months of distance learning, students are especially shy and reluctant to participate in class. These snacks and prizes will be just the thing to encourage students to jump back into learning with their peers. I've already been able to hand out snacks to all students. I think feeding them is a visceral way to show them that I care about them. Thank you for making this project possible!”

  • School Supply-a-Palooza!

    Funded Jul 28, 2021

Thank you for donating these much-needed school supplies to our middle school technology classroom! We are returning in a week and a half to in-person learning, and, with the rise in cases due to the Covid-19 Delta variant, everyone is feeling anxious about it. All we can do is try our very best to stay safe in the classroom.

Having needed supplies is a great way to start off the school year! Paper, tape, storage bags, labels, craft sticks, and first-aid items are all important for taking care of our students and giving them the tools they need to be successful. We really appreciate your support of our students! Thanks again!”

Thank you for stopping by my project page! I know there are many worthy classrooms here at DonorsChoose.org and am especially grateful for the support my students and I have and continue to receive from generous donors like you! I am blessed to have a lively 7th and 8th grade technology class where I teach computer applications, technology, and STEAM. I am putting together a makerspace where students can create unique prototypes using both low- and high-tech materials. For example, students could create a "living masterpiece" artwork, where the subject's eyes move back and forth using a Microbit or Raspberry Pi and a servo motor or an interactive monster that is coded to move in response to touch, voice, or movement prompts. I can't wait to see what my students can create with the amazing resources you've helped provide us!
