I teach low income, bilingual, special needs (K-2) students. Some students are in wheelchairs, some are deaf, the majority are nonverbal, and all have huge hearts. The students spend their day working on basic skills such as learning to communicate, personal hygiene, toileting, and basic number/letter skills. Communication is the foundation for all other skills my students work on. They often get frustrated and have behavior issues when they cannot express what they need or do not like. Communication through sign is also vital to my students' safety as they grow and become more independent.
