Kindle for our Fires!
Funded Sep 15, 2014Thank you so much for donating to our classroom and allowing my students to experience reading with an e-reader. The Kindles will do so much for my students. These Kindles will allow me to download one book to share with a group of students. If they come to a word that they don't know, they can look it up right there in the Kindle. They can change the font size to make it an enjoyable experience as well. My students are so excited to begin reading and with that initial excitement, the right books, and great class discussions, I am confident that they will become life long readers and therefore life long learners. You have enabled this possibility by your donation and we will be forever grateful for what you have done for us.”

The Trip of a Lifetime! Just $5.00 a ticket!
Funded Sep 15, 2014Thank you so much for supporting literacy in my classroom! We are excited to read this wonderful historical fictional book! We study the beginnings of California and the Native Americans that lived here. We will be reading about what life was like for them and the early explorers. We will be able to use our knowledge of this period of time to help us understand this great novel. You also provided me with teacher guides for the other classroom novels as well as the audio versions so the students can listen to the story read to them at times. These audio versions provide good models for my students on what a fluent reader sounds like. Having good literature in the classroom and studying different authors is so important to me and you have helped me achieve that goal for my students. We are over the moon and loving reading thanks to you!”

Future Filmmakers
Funded Sep 15, 2014We are so thankful to you for what you have done for our classroom! We have already begun filming life on campus with the video camera. Yesterday we filmed some group work on a field trip and are so excited to begin editing it. Your donation has made it possible for us to use film to express ourselves creatively. We are planning on writing scripts, newscasts, interviews and using the video camera to film all of it! As a teacher I am looking forward to incorporating video into my curriculum for my students and hopefully inspire some to continue with filmmaking in the future. I knew in first grade I was going to be a teacher and maybe in 4th grade, someone will decide to make films for his or her future.”

Funded Sep 15, 2014Thank you so much for choosing Los Angeles to flash fund! I can't express with words the excitement in my classroom when I told the students the news that you had supported our small school in so many ways. My classroom finally has the technology needed for me to teach effectively. With the laptop, I am able to project lessons on the Smartboard, actually use the Smartboard, and teach students how to use technology effectively. The students will have full access to this laptop and have already started researching California facts for a social studies project. There have been countless times that I have tried to show my students various things on the Internet and my fingers were crossed as the websites loaded. Now, no time is wasted as we explore all that the internet has to offer education.”

Mathematicians and Scientists Found Here!
Funded Sep 24, 2014I wanted to express my gratitude for your generosity towards my classroom. Our math and science resources arrived this week and if you could see the look on the students' faces, your heart would warm! They can't wait to explore the magnet sets and discover what other experiments they can create with different types of magnets. We finally have our own set of igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks that we can hold and examine rather just look at pictures of! Last, our math manipulatives will allow us to play math games that will increase our number sense. The level of learning in our classroom has risen to a whole new level because of you!”

The ART of the Story
Funded Oct 3, 2014Thank you so much for the donation to our class! The books arrived today and the students can't believe how big they are! They quickly looked through them and marveled at the illustrations on the almost 294 pages! They have never read a 600 page book and this will be a big deal for them once they accomplish this goal! We also received the audio version of one of the books and are excited to hear a professional reader read parts of it as we listen. The students will be able to see examples of how art tells stories and explore how drawings themselves can tell a story that is just as interesting as the written word because of your thoughtfulness. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Funded Oct 1, 2014Thank you so very much for donating to our classroom! The students are so excited to be able to wear microphones for our musicals! We have already tried them in the auditorium and they work wonderfully! The students can't believe that the 2-way radios also have headphones for quiet communication during the shows. These donations to our classroom will bring us to a whole new level of performance. We are also excited to use the new GoPro camera! We will be the first in the school to use this type of camera and the possibilities for movie making are endless! You have made a difference in hundreds of students' lives and we thank you!”

Funded Dec 27, 2013Thank you so much for donating the money necessary for my students to enjoy "The One and Only Ivan."
We have started reading it and the students are thoroughly enjoying it. Some students have already finished it and have told me how they cried, or laughed, and how much they enjoyed it.
As we are reading silently in class, I can hear the students laughing and smiling. They call me over and reread passages that they want to share with me, whether to share the humor present in the book or an example of figurative language the author chose to include.
This book was the book that changed my son's attitude toward reading. After reading Ivan, he realized how good books can really, truly be enjoyable. Some of the pages in this book only have one or two sentences and the students enjoy the ease of reading this book. They feel success after they have read many pages. My goal with this book is to try to change some of my students' attitudes towards reading just like my son's attitude was changed. You have helped with this and I think you from the bottom of my heart!”

Computer Literate!
Funded Oct 22, 2013Thank you so much for your kind generosity! With the new California Common Core standards being implemented slowly in the next two years, the use of technology within the curriculum is a must! Using the headphones, my students are able to work quietly on the computers to learn how to type and work with other online resources so others in the classroom are able to work. Using the flash drives, they are able to save their learning and either continue it at home or continue it on any computer in the classroom. This has enabled the students to work on the computers at anytime without waiting for other students to complete their assignments.
The technology assistance that you have provided my classroom has also excited children and families to use more technology at home. Conversations are enriched regarding learning in the classroom because the students can immediately pull up assignments that they are working on to show their parents. Parents are also becoming collaborative partners in their children's learning providing feedback and input on assignments brought home. This has boosted student learning because it is not just learning that stays in the classroom. My students are excited about taking work home and completing it on their home computers.
The students in my classroom also are now able to use the classroom camera and take many pictures for the classroom/school newspaper and record video for interviews to edit and publish. The camera cards that we received are essential for the students to accomplish many journalistic type ventures.
The students in my class are so happy to be using the products that you provided for us. They have enriched our curriculum and enabled them to do so many new activities that they weren't able to do before.”

Reading, Reading, Reading!!
Funded Sep 12, 2013Thank you so much for generously donating to our classroom. We can't wait to dive into "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane." My students are so excited to have new, good quality books in the classroom. They have heard me read this amazing story aloud and have already fallen in love with it. They can't wait until we finish our current book by the same author to read this story again and take it home to fall asleep with. We are also anxious to hear parts of the story read using the cd that you also helped us receive. I tried my best to have an English accent when I read the story to my students but they would love to hear another voice. It is amazing and wonderful to see that books can bring so much joy to students still to this day.”
