  • Play Math With Me

    Funded Jul 6, 2015

Thank you so, so much for considering our classroom to donate to! We received all the wonderful resources for math and the students are extremely excited to start working with them and learning from them. The books provide incredible lessons and resources for math instruction and they will aid in making math easier to understand for my students and most of all fun! I feel that because they can "touch the math" and play with the manipulatives, they are better prepared to truly understand what I am teaching. Thank you so much again for considering my classroom. We are very lucky!”

  • Learning the Technology of the Picture

    Funded Mar 9, 2015

Thank you for the wonderful gift that you provided for me and my students. I have already used the computer so much that my teaching has been enhanced incredibly. I am able to take it easily to all of my trainings and use it to take notes and research readily what the presenters are discussing. It goes everywhere with me because it is so lightweight and it has enabled me to keep my notes organized, project lesson plans for other people, and look up lesson plans to teach to my students and enrich the curriculum. Additionally, I am teaching my students how to take pictures and edit them using Photoshop and they are enjoying the process and are able to express themselves artistically through these edited photographs. The laptop and software has made a dramatic difference in how I teach and the teacher I am continuing to evolve into.”

  • A Sharpened Pencil Leads to a Sharpened Mind

    Funded Apr 29, 2015

Who would think a pencil sharpener would bring so much joy and satisfaction? Wow! What a difference you have made in the classroom! I am able to sharpen pencils in my classroom instead of walking to the office and sometimes waiting in line. This has freed up time to plan lessons and review student work. There are always writing implements readily available for my students to use and they love having an abundance of sharpened pencils. There is something about a sharpened pencil that makes it more fun to write and the students write longer because they have the tools they need. Eventually I will allow the students to sharpen their own pencils but I cherish it so much that I am still the one to make sure that they have what they need in order to write. Thank you so, so much!”

  • Creating from Needs and Wants

    Funded Mar 15, 2015

I am writing to thank you for providing my students with opportunities to learn about inventions and financial literacy, which our district provided curriculum does not cover. My students were able to discuss the difference between needs and wants, and in small groups come up with a plan to create something for students to purchase. They started with something simple such as drought resistant plants. They were able to propagate plants and sell them at our Open House as a beginning lesson. They loved advertising for it, and creating a plan on how they were going to sell them to the parents. Future lessons revolved around the exemplar texts that you helped us purchase focusing on inventions. Students read books on how things were created and how inventions came to light, both by men and women. They continued to discuss ideas for inventions that other students would like to have based on research. It was incredibly fun and gave my students a chance to be entrepreneurs. Thank you for your kindness.”

  • History Loved Through Pictures

    Funded Apr 29, 2015

Thank you so much for providing my students with a better understanding of history. The picture books that you provided for my classroom truly enhanced their understanding of many events that we study in social studies. The social studies curriculum that we use in class can be a bit dull and dry and the historical fictional books added color to this subject. Many of the books were read aloud in class, others were read during independent reading time, and all were read to kindergarten students during Reading Buddy time. You have truly made history come alive for my students and for many students in the future. I am truly grateful.”

  • Wherefore Art Thou Shakespeare?

    Funded Apr 17, 2015

Thank you so much for your generosity! My students loved having the opportunities to read the various plays written by William Shakespeare. We were able to read many of his plays because they were written for younger students to understand and enjoy. My class was able to see "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at an outdoor amphitheater and I watched them laugh during the funny parts and smile during most of the production. They understood what was happening on stage and were able to follow the plot because of the exposure to the books that you provided. They felt incredibly proud of themselves that they were able to help their parents understand what was happening as well. Hundreds of students will be able to share this experience because of what you provided.”

  • Learning to Garden and Gardening to Learn!

    Funded Feb 27, 2015

I want to say thank you so much for your donations to our classroom and our gardening project! Our vertical gardens are going beautifully, we are growing and eating strawberries in our pots, and using the gloves and tools to work in the big garden at our school. When we look outside the classroom door, we see green and beauty. It reminds all of us of home and our school is a more beautiful place now. We sit outside and work together collaboratively surrounded by all the plants that we are growing. We have learned a lot about gardening and propagating plants and we are lucky to be able to watch the changes happening so easily.”

  • Teaching for the Planet with Gardening and Worms!

    Funded Nov 2, 2014

We received all the wonderful donations a couple of months ago. I wanted to wait to thank you to relay exactly what your generosity has done for our classroom. The worm farm is up and running! We put it together as a class, and we are feeding the worms and waiting patiently for them to grow from a few hundred to thousands to fill our garden with nutrients. We read the worm books to the kindergartners during "Reading Buddies" so not only are we learning about worms, but the kindergartners are too! We have been working in the elevated gardens, eating the food we have grown, and transplanting the larger vegetables to our community garden on campus. We have planted kale, broccoli, garbanzo beans, nasturtiums, sage, and chamomile. The lessons that the students have learned because of this small garden will never be forgotten and you will never be forgotten.”

  • Let's Get Physical!!!!

    Funded Sep 15, 2014

We are so excited to get physical! Many of my students don't have extra curricular activities after school or on the weekends. The exercise that they receive many times is my responsibility. You have helped me help these young students to love to run around, get exercise and work together as a team out on the yard. Our playground doesn't have many balls and now we have good quality equipment. We have a parachute to enable us to work cooperatively and build teamwork while having a great time. We have new tether balls and balance equipment. I am so excited for all that can be done with your donation to get these children active and healthier. As elementary school teachers, we work hard getting our students to meet state standards. You have helped my students meet the physical education standards that are often overlooked. Thank you!”

  • Sustainability, Science, and Nutrition in Our Secret Garden

    Funded Oct 24, 2014

Thank you so much for your incredibly generous gift for my students. We have been planning and planting our garden a bit each day as the students have been measuring plots and sitting quietly on the bench to draw pictures of their dream garden that is soon to become a reality. They have been weeding and planting using the tools that you purchased for them. Most of my students have never planted a plant let alone a vegetable or a flower and have not had the opportunity to care for a garden. You have helped provide this opportunity for them and we are enthusiastically grateful.”

Our school is a small public school with students from many different countries around the world, with varied life experiences. Being small is an advantage, in which all the students know each other well, work together and take care of each other. Parents help in the classroom and the community spirit flourishes. Students share books with one another and discuss what they read in literature circles. Some students have the means to have books at home and others go to the library to get their books. The classroom library, however small it is, is open for students to take books home or to keep in their desks to read when time allows. There are students in the class who haven't discovered how fun and engaging books can be. Books at their grade level are sometimes a daunting task to read while books at lower grade levels don't provide enough detail to keep them engaged. They tend to gravitate to easier books because of the large print and simplistic vocabulary but soon they become bored.
