  • Our Little Birdies Need New Rackets This Season!

    Funded Jan 2, 2024

Thank you for thinking about my students and our community. I am grateful to have a program that connects us with a community of people who want to see education thrive. Teaching in the today's world continues to create potholes, traffic jams, flat tires on the road for many of our students and educators, but it is your thoughtfulness that helps to keep us traveling the road to success.

As far as the birdies go, the students have already lost a few but that was due to the enthusiastic swings of their new rackets. These students really do appreciate the things we do for them, regardless of size or magnitude. Your donations allow them to continue their club and team aspirations flowing in a happy direction. Stay safe and enjoy your work week!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Elias

  • Bringing The Good News To School!

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Thank you so much for this donation. During this time of year I know everyone is getting things ready for the holidays, but taking the time to think of our students is the greatest gift of all. Our students are going to appreciate this, especially when we can start our podcast and stream out games. Follow the jhs189 Instagram for more details on how to watch. Our youtube streams for our basketball season have never been better. We want to thank for allowing us to stream our best season ever at 8-2! ”

  • Time for Some Covid Documentaries Middle School Style!

    Funded Mar 3, 2022

Happy new year to everyone! thank you for the gift your donations provided. It has been an emotional journey with our students dealing with the next stage of their education. These tools have helped a group of students to build confidence with their currrent level of communication. My students have struggled with their confidence during this school year. My goal has been to provide them with tools and space to develop and make friends with like minded interests.

I tend to sound like a broken record, but it really makes my day when you donate to the projects I post. I hope everyone is safe and healthy in this new year.”

  • Bringing Comic Book Art to Life!

    Funded Sep 29, 2021

Thank you for this donation. Our students want to learn and we want to provide them with the best opportunity and equipment to succeed at whatever they put their minds too, with this opportunity being art and comic design. My goal has been to create a studio for our students to create and grow. Since many of them come low income earning families, I want the to feel like they still have opportunities to hone their craft.

This is an investment in the future of art and design work. I always tell my students "it is not how you start but how you finish", thanks to your donation, they have a chance to finish strong.”

  • Let's Get Crazy With YoYos!

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

Happy New year to you all. Thank you for these donations. I believe the news of how difficult it has been teaching this year has been broadcasted across most news networks. With that being said students have been in need of something to look forward too, something positive to latch onto, like an anchor during the worst storm imaginable.

These yoyos have allowed our students to have something cool to learn while also managing how the stigma of covid related rules has impacted our physical education class.

The smiles ( which we cannot see, but the eyes give away) have been priceless. Thank you for being a part of our community during this rough time.”

  • Podcasting in the World of Covid-19 Part 2

    Funded May 20, 2020

First off, I hope everyone is safe and healthy during these turbulent times. It has been difficult to help so many of our students with limited access to them. But, this is where your donations come into play.

The introduction of these podcasting tools has been great for some of our students. WE have been able to create a podcast show with two of our students called "We Secretly Hate Each Other". It has been a highlight for us here in the school. The ladies have really take off with 4 episodes under their belt. I wish I could share this link for their channel with you but doe guidelines do that make that difficult.

Without your help this would not have happened. we have two more groups creating podcasts as well "Gaming to the Future" and "Collabing with Mr. Elias". This really meant alot, thank you again for your donations and stay safe.”

  • Podcasting in the World of Covid-19 Part 1

    Funded May 20, 2020

This year has been something akin to a novel. Never could I believe that school would operate under these circumstances. It has been difficult for all parties involved, students, teachers, parents. Over the summer my goal was to find a light to help brighten the days and weeks of the school year to follow. The thought was setting up a podcast in the school.

At first it was difficult to get things started at with so many students remote. But, thanks to the host of "Timir Talks", A group of our students have been able to start a podcast in school. Timir and his crew are looking to bring news, updates and other forms of discourse to the school and its community. This could not be possible without your help and donations. I thank you for your hard work and dedication in providing us with the tools for success in this endeavor.

Thank you for this gift and hope you are all safe and healthy this holiday season.”

  • Its Raspberry Pi Time!

    Funded Aug 22, 2019

First off thank you for your donations. You cannot imagine how humbled we are to receive these gifts. Our students have been asking for more tools to use to improve their tech background. My goal was to teach these students the equivalent of the old proverb "Give a person a Fish, and You Feed them for a Day. Teach a person To Fish, and You Feed them for a Lifetime", but the tech version.

The goal is to teach the students to understand how a computer's components work and how to build a custom Personal Computer. This way they understand that regardless of finances you can still have access to technology for your daily needs. These raspberry pi kits are the start to this journey. They are really looking forward to this and it is all thanks to you.”

Our basketball team must use sub-standard basketball equipment for practice and warm up drills before games. When we travel to other schools we have old basketballs for warmups, a mesh bag to transport our equipment. We have the same beat up basketballs for practice and team shoot arounds. During our home games we don't have a proper scoreboard to keep track of stats (which can lead to difficulty keeping records for our team). Our goal is to provide out team with everything that a higher income school has access to. There is not a lot of opportunity at our school for our students to practice and play with the best of equipment. Our basketball team must use sub-standard basketball equipment for practice and warm up drills before games. Our goal is to provide our student-athletes with the tools necessary to be competitive and the belief that no matter where you start you can always finish first!
