  • Hearing is Learning!

    Funded Sep 11, 2023

My students and I are beyond thankful for your generosity!! My students have been asking to use headphones for a while now, as the class set I previously had have been damaged/broken. When I announced that we were getting a new class set of headphones, they were thrilled! Seeing their reaction when I showed them the headphones was absolutely priceless.

My online curriculum is such an important tool in my students' learning because it provides them with lessons that are at their "just right" level. My students can listen to our textbook being read to them, take interactive quizzes, watch videos, etc. that are all aligned with the NextGen Curriculum and the NYS Regents Exam for the Living Environment. This is extremely beneficial in our classroom; giving students with special needs the chance to grow and achieve academic success with the general education curriculum.

When there are multiple groups of students working on different types of activities involving listening/audio, it is challenging to hear and focus on the task each student is working on. The generous donations helped provide my students with these headphones, which ultimately have given my students the opportunity to remain focused and on task. This is necessary for my students to build their knowledge of STEM by accommodating individual auditory learning styles.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cefalu

  • Charging into our Future!

    Funded Jul 20, 2021

I would like to thank you for your generous donations! My students are going to be thrilled to know that they will be able to charge their devices! The wear and tear from using their devices daily has caused many of their charging cables to stop working.

Now that we have new iPad charging cables, my students will be able to charge their iPads while at school and never have to worry about being unprepared to learn!!

These new charging cables will help my students feel at ease knowing that they are able to continue learning with their fully charged devices! We can make sure that all devices are fully charged before bringing them home as well.

    Thank you all so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cefalu

I'd like to thank each of you for your generous donations! My students were thrilled to use this filament with our 3D printer. Having all of these colored filaments lets us bring our learning to life! My students were able to print out 3D models of the human heart, and were super engaged and excited throughout the entire process! • Special Needs: Auditory Learners

    Funded Nov 7, 2018

My students and I can't thank you enough for your generosity!! My students were beyond excited when the headphones arrived!! Seeing their reaction when I showed them the headphones was absolutely priceless. They explained that they didn't know that there were people out there who care about their academic success. It was truly a heart-warming moment!!

My online curriculum is such an important tool in my students' learning because it provides them with lessons that are at their "just right" level. My students can listen to our textbook being read to them, take interactive quizzes, watch videos, etc. that are all aligned with the Common Core State Standards and the NYS Regents Exam for the Living Environment. This is extremely beneficial in our classroom; giving students with special needs the chance to grow and achieve academic success with the general education curriculum.

When there are multiple groups of students working on different types of activities involving listening/audio, it is challenging to hear and focus on the task each student is working on. The generous donations helped provide my students with Sony Noise Canceling Headphones, which ultimately have given my students the opportunity to remain focused and on task. This is necessary for my students to build their knowledge of STEM by accommodating individual auditory learning styles.”

  • SMART Technology for SMART Special Needs Students!

    Funded Aug 1, 2017

I'd like to thank each one of you for donating to my project! In a science based classroom, my students are now able to view videos more easily, aiding in the expansion of their knowledge. My students are very highly motivated in using the Smart Board now that we have a working computer to connect and make it interactive. Being able to display Power Point presentations allows lectures to be more engaging for my students. Technology is such a huge part our world and bringing it into my classroom allows my students to reach their highest potential. They particularly enjoy playing educational games on websites, where they are "playing" but learning through reinforcement and interaction.

We appreciate your donations more than you could imagine! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!”

  • MacBooks for Special Needs Teens

    Funded Aug 17, 2015

I'd like to thank each and every one of you for your generous donations. Since having these new computers in my classroom, my students have become more engaged in learning. Having technology in the classroom helps turn the traditional learning style into a positively enhanced learning experience.

When learning any given topic, my students are extremely eager to google images and videos to expand on the topic. It is absolutely amazing to see the level of motivation in my students - they want to learn!

One of the most visited websites in my classroom is www.kahoot.com. Here, my students work in groups (teams) to complete vocabulary assessments that I have created. My students have become competitive in their teams and actually look forward to "vocabulary day"!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cefalu

My students are part of a restricted 12:1:1 setting due to their severe social/emotional disabilities and academic delays. All of my students live in Brooklyn, NY with low income families, in shelters, or with foster families. My students' home lives are extremely difficult; they display very little trust toward their peers and adults. The abuse and neglect that these children have faced in their lifetime is something no child, or human being, should be exposed to. These teens come to school because it is where they feel "at home." Our school is a warm environment that welcomes all students, regardless of disability.
