  • Maker's Space Goes Digital!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

The materials we were able to purchase due to your donations are a bit hit!

Students are using the green screen materials to create all sorts of videos. We have monthly sessions with light up circuits and duct tape design during lunches. The number of students who visit my library to participate in our Stem activity has tripled!

We are so grateful for your wonderful generosity. Our library is a lively place of design and cooperative learning. This would not have happened without your help.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Peck

  • Creating a Library Maker Space

    Funded Apr 20, 2016

Your generous donations enabled us to purchase Legos and Kinnects blocks that our students have enjoyed immensely! Each morning before school and then again at lunch break, the library is filled with students creating and building using the included directions as well as their own imaginations. Students took over this area in a way I couldn't have imagined! Once one creation was displayed, the area exploded with creativity!

Eventually we had to dismantle some of the projects in order to have enough materials to continue with our creations. Now with a fresh start with the blocks, students are designing for a purpose. Our first design challenge will be a bridge. They will compete to see whose bridge can hold the most weight.

We are excited to continue building on our new maker's space! Soon we will have the wall capacity to create our Lego wall! Excitement is building, and it couldn't have happened without your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Peck

Our middle school is located in a rural/suburban area an hour outside of Seattle. Our service area includes two Naval Base Stations - Bremerton and Bangor. Approximately 20% of our students have parents who are service members or work for the ship yard. We have spent the last 3 years authorizing to become an International Baccalaureate school. We succeeded and are in our first official year. Our school serves approximately 750 students each day. Many of those students come from low income homes and struggle to come up with the resources to meet their educational needs. They are an amazing group of students who are excited about new ideas and projects. They tinker, play and share ideas. I want to continue to encourage that 'free range' space for them to develop ideas by providing them with materials to make that happen!
