Magic Reading Carpet
Funded Jan 20, 2011Thank you so much for your donations! You helped my class purchase a fabulous, colorful carpet for our growing classroom library. Now my students have a place to sit! The students are engaged in reading while they sit or lie on the caterpillar carpet.
Research shows that giving students a special place to read will motivate them to sit and read for longer periods of time. My students take turns visiting the classroom library and are always anxious to sit on the carpet. As a result, my students are reading more, developing their language skills, increasing their fluency in reading, and expanding their vocabulary.
We appreciate greatly your support to education and hope that you will continue supporting our classroom and other classrooms in an effort to increase student achievement.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Garcia
This classroom project was brought to life by American Express Members Project and 9 other donors.Building Literacy Through Storytelling
Funded Apr 6, 2010Thank you for your generous support! My students were thrilled when we received the flannel board and story characters. They immediately went to reread one their favorite stories, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and used the story characters and the flannel board to bring the story to live. They were excited about the beautiful colors of the characters and objects. They were able to use all the vocabulary they had learned to describe all the different characters and story objects. As they continue to use the material, they are able to expand their language by retelling and expanding on storyline. They are becoming great storytellers. The skills they are learning now will transfer on to build future skills in later grades.
Your gift came in the midst of huge budget cuts in our district. Without supporters like you that care greatly about the future of our young students, our project would not be funded.Once again, I thank you on behalf of my students.”

Building Literacy Through Theater Arts
Funded Jan 29, 2010I truly appreciate your kindness, for your donation has brought positive change in our classroom. The puppets and the theater stage you helped donate enhances my students' learning through the arts. We use the puppets to act out stories we have read and make-up new ones. The use of theater arts sparks genuine interest in literacy.
Our district is currently facing rough budget times. The arts will no longer be available for our students. Arts teachers have been cut.
But thanks to you, my current and future students will be able to experience theater arts an enrich their literacy development. Without donors like you, many students would not be able to experience such valuable learning experiences. ”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Garcia
