Our school is in an urban setting with little green space. It is in a high poverty, high crime area of town; 98% of our students are on free/reduced lunch. We are a diverse school with many ethnic groups and 16 languages, yet we also are a tight community due to proactive efforts to build collaborative supports within our school and neighborhood. We have been making a concerted effort to beautify our neighborhood, show students where healthy foods come from, how to eat healthy and develop them into environmental stewards.
