• Looking Forward to New - Books and Supplies!

  Thank you so much for your generous donation in support of my students and my classroom. This year is passing incredibly fast, and our #CastroCrew family is really enjoying all of the learning and growing that we are doing together. Thanks to your generosity, we are able to have enough supplies for all the projects and work we do together. Additionally, we are enjoying the new, engaging books we received! We look forward to four short months more together, but, thankfully, the supplies and book will be around for the next class of #CastroCrew students!

• Need a Pencil? I Got You!

  I want to thank you for your donations that made this project possible. Unfortunately, even in 2024, public schools are still at a major deficit when it comes to even the most basic of supplies.

  As a public school teacher, I want to make sure that my students have all of the basic supplies needed so that they can do all the "cool stuff" that I ask of them. More and more education is now project-based, and to do projects well, classrooms need to be fully-stocked.

• Giving Students' Brains a Break!

  My 8th graders work so hard! I pride myself on being a rigorous teacher with high expectations, so it's only natural that my students learn to work hard in my class. Just recently, the entire 8th grade class came together to study and prepare for a major Constitution test. I say all of this because my students need a brain break.

  Thanks to the games you contributed to, my students will have stuff to do on a wellness day/brain break day. It's so important that we take care of our students' social-emotional well-being, and these games will help me to do just that.

• Glue, Pencils, and Books, Oh My!

  It may be hard to believe, but eighth graders go through pencils and glue like kids go through candy on Halloween! So, thanks to your outstanding and generous contributions, those supply bins are now overflowing, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that my students were EXCITED when I told my third core that new glue sticks had arrived! It really is the little things...

  In addition, this project adds to our growing classroom library. I want all of my students to find that one book that will excite them about reading and get them to want to read more. I'm always looking for diverse and engaging books so that hopefully every student can find at least one that speaks to them. Therefore, I'm so excited to get these new books out on the shelves.

• Back to School - Let's Get Excited!

  As we usher in a new year, one that is hopefully even brighter than the last, it's important to remember the impact that all that is going on has on our students. At ages 13 and 14, my 8th graders are not only suffering through the challenges of growing pains but also the stresses and uncertainties of our everyday life as we navigate the global pandemic (yes, still!).

  My goal is to make my classroom a second home to all of my students, one full of warmth, laughter, community, and, of course, knowledge. The books and supplies from this project will help my students feel supported and safe in this room. My library has grown immensely, mostly thanks to the DonorsChoose community, and I could not be more grateful. All of my students are able to find a book to escape in, and that is a priceless gift.

  I'm excited for the next semester, and I cannot thank you all enough for providing me and my students with the supplies we need to be as successful as possible!”

• Taking Care of Students Through Literature

  Thank you so much for your generous contributions! Thanks to you, many of my book series are now complete! It's so gratifying to know that when you start a series, you can finish it! I aim for my classroom library to be full so that every reader in my class can find a book that meets their needs. Unfortunately, as time goes on, my books get very LOVED, which results in wear and tear that makes them unreadable for the next student. Thank you for helping to replace some of these very loved books. My students now have many more complete series to get excited about.”

• We're Coming Back - Let's Get Reading!

  This year has been anything but normal, and through it all, our students have shown up. In creating my Donors Choose projects, that's what I think about - how can I "show up" for my students.

  As an English and history teacher, I am always encouraging my students to read, read, and read some more. This year, even though our setting may have looked different, the reading expectations for my students were not different at all. Our librarian came through, in a huge way, with weekly curbside pickup opportunities for the whole school, but sometimes popular books were all checked out, and students did not have the usual ease of access that they would have in a regular school year.

  That's where my classroom library came in. Having books available for my students to pick up all year long has been a true blessing. The completion of this project has completed many of my series, which were missing books, allowing my students more opportunities for fantastic adventures through reading. Thank you so much for your support!!!”

• Supplies for Success

  Funded Dec 2, 2020

  Thanks to your generosity, this project has been fulfilled, and I could not be more grateful. Your contributions have made it possible to have supplies available for my incoming hybrid students. Since many students will be getting a new teacher, it will be helpful for them to have a new notebook, as it will be a fresh start. Also, pencil sharpening will not be available, so having mechanical pencils my students can have will also help them. As always, not every student has access to the supplies that they need for school to be successful, so I'm grateful to have the supplies for those students.

  These are challenging times, so, as a teacher, I'm trying my best to make the best of it for my students. Your support really makes a difference. Thank you so much!”
