Let's Play Pretend

Funded Jul 13, 2017

Our main goal of the Preschool program is to "Learn with Play". The students are able to accomplish this through free choice centers. Being a first year classroom teacher, I was starting fresh. With your thoughtful donations, I was able to create the perfect classroom for my 40 students to explore, play and learn.

My students' favorite center is the dramatic play center. They started off the year with just the basic kitchen set up. Dressing up and playing house with the other children. Then in December, we changed it around to become a store for Christmas time. While discussing how one of the most important aspects of Christmas is giving and being humble. They would dress up in fancy clothes and shop for the perfect items.

Science is another area where most children do not get to experience outside of a classroom. It is very important for their young minds to explore and wonder how and why. The items purchased for this center greatly enhanced their exploration. They were able to see bugs they would normally be scared of or not ones they would come in contact with. They were able to use the color changers to look at the world differently. One of the most important things you can do for a child is to let them explore the world.

My students were so excited to see all the items we had to offer in our classroom. We are always changing them out and moving the centers around keeping it fresh.

The future holds great things for these little 4 and 5-year olds, we will be adding some more kindergarten readiness as they will only have five short months left with me. We will be working on our names and the letters and the sounds each makes. All these important skills will be learned while they play fun games and through new center pieces. We must make their school a positive experience, so they will have a chance at a bright future. This all made possible through your donations, we are forever grateful.”

With gratitude,
