  • Empty...the World Beyond Fossil Fuels

    My students have loved using the the Little Bits in our energy unit to create inventions using solar and wind power. They were so excited when they saw them that I had to give them time just to explore all the different things they could do with them before they could focus on their invention. Our next unit will be on properties of water and water conservation. As we continue through our science curriculum, we will focus on all the different ways we can make a difference being stewards of the Earth.”

  • Break In To Science!

    My students absolutely love doing our Breakout activities. Last week we did a breakout called, "Free Gregor Mendel." Students had to use their knowledge of genetics to solve puzzles to get the codes to unlock the six different locks. Some of their comments on the exit tickets were...

    " I felt nervous when the time was running out and there were other people with only one more lock then I was hype when we won."

    "It was really fun and suspenseful. I loved it and I hope we do it again."

I am a seventh grade science teacher in a public school system. I teach students with a variety of abilities from gifted students to students with a variety of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities. Although our school is considered an accredited school, we have quite a bit of an achievement gap with our special ed population and minority population. I am always trying to find new ways to instill a love of learning and increase student engagement in class.

About my class
