Students need a chance to be able to physically hold a book in their hands, manipulate the pages, and dive into a different world. In the early grades, students are learning to read, so that when they get older they can read to learn. Without these fundamental skills in place, a child is doomed for the rest of their education career. By having books like Around the World Book Set along with Math at Work Book Set available for a child to use whenever they possibly can, is going to build up their ability to read and comprehend. I want my students to have a chance at excelling during their school careers, and by supplying them with as many books as possible, is the number one way to do that. Funding in schools is not what it could be, and being a first year teacher is very tough on the wallet. All I want is to build a library that speaks for itself. Where a student can make a selection on a book that works for their ability, and allows them to get lost in another universe. I think that supplying them with as many books close to their reading level makes a HUGE impact on their desire to read. I want to give them selection and choice. I want them to search for a book that is written on something that they want to learn about. Having a small library can turn a child away from wanting to read. I think that if I was able to get the books I needed like Guided Reading Collection: Grade 2 and Guided Reading Collection: Grade 1, for my classroom, I could facilitate a love for reading like no other in my students. They would appreciate sitting down in a cozy corner and getting lost in a book. They will have choice, so they could pick something that they would be able to comprehend and retell.
