As I enter my first year of teaching, my classroom does not have many items in it, with a rug being a key item missing from our classroom. This large rug will greatly influence our learning in the classroom each day. This provides students with a place to gather together for many activities and lessons. It will be used for whole-group Reading and Math, as well as small-group activities. The rug can be split into various spaces directed for specific centers. It will also provide a space of alternate seating for the students who would rather work independently on the rug rather than in their chair at a desk. This project is just the start of my goals to create a safe, welcoming classroom environment for each and every student. It's important to provide students with a variety of work spaces throughout the classroom so each student can achieve their goals. Having flexible seating helps students learn what works for them and what doesn't. This will provide a better sense of self as well as a better focus on projects and other work. Rather than focusing on the distractions around them, they will have a calm space where they feel able to complete work and create their masterpieces. I will place the rug directly in front of the Smart Board, at the front of the room, for ideal whole-group lessons, sharing, and interactive activities on the Smart Board. My students will be eager to learn while also sharing a special place together. With your help, I hope we can make this project happen and surprise these children with an awesome space for learning, gathering, and exploring! Thank you so much for taking the time to consider this project!
