Suck It Up!
Funded Feb 4, 2023Words cannot express how thankful I am for this new vacuum. When the students walk in the room, they are very observant and complimented the cleanliness of the room and that is mostly because the rug looks brand new! They really love my "new rug" lol.
We sit on this rug for an intimate experience called "carpet time" while we explore new rhythms as an example . These new ideas can be on rhythm cards, projected on the smart board, or demonstrated by me! I need them close for these experiences and the clean carpet allows me to do this!
THANK YOU!!”

Pool Noodles for Cardio!
Funded Sep 30, 2021My students are having a BLAST with these pool noodles. I cut them in three and made "drum sticks" out of them. When I feel they need a dance/cardio break, we find a motivational video and bang out some rhythms on their desks. These videos are instructional and motivational and contain popular songs of the day with an instructor that they can follow. The students can get the exercise they desperately need and at the same time they are learning and practicing the rhythms we learned in class.
WIN WIN!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!”

Just the Basics
Funded Jul 30, 2021I wanted to begin with the fact that in these unprecedented times, our basic supplies are being used at an alarmingly quick pace. I have used these kleenex boxes and hand sanitizer to keep my students safe and myself safe as well.
In regards to the pens, sharpies, folders, and printer ink, we use these supplies daily and they help my classroom run very smoothly. For instance, the children use the sharpies to label folders and belongings, they use the pens to write down musical rhythms that they hear, and the printer ink can be used to print out individual copies of manipulatives used in various musical listening examples.
There is no limit to what these supplies can help us achieve, and for that we thank you!!”

Funded Jun 23, 2021Thank you so much for your generosity. This Tango Printer is the absolute best. We are printing song lyrics to help my students with reading, rhythm activity worksheets to help them read and understand rhythm, and "fill in the missing melody" to help them read and understand melodic patterns. These are only a few examples of what I've been using the printer for.
Sometimes there is a moment in time, "a teachable moment", where something unplanned is played out. Having my own printer in my music room is a necessary component to aide in these unplanned exceptional moments. You don't always have the luxury of planning ahead, waiting for office copies, and being so rigid.
Some of our best music learning comes the unplanned moments. Thank you for allowing me to follow through with these special events!”

Ukulele Therapy
Funded May 4, 2021When my students learned that we now had enough ukuleles for everyone to start playing, they were so excited!! Until I got this year's shipment, all they could do was stare at the bunch that I had perched on the windowsill. "When will we learn how to play them?" ..was a question I had to answer several times!! "When we have enough for all" was all I could say.
Fastforward and now my 4th graders are enjoying learning the ukulele very much! They can play 3 chords and we are exploring a new song each week using the 2 or 3 chords that they know. One of my students said today that "the ukulele really relaxes me". Another student said "I didn't know that I could learn to play an instrument". "This is so fun!"
My next adventure would be to prepare them for a concert. I hope to do that next year!”

Funded Aug 28, 2019Technology is sometimes a gateway into children's souls. I know it may sound cliche, but for some children, it lights them up with confidence and bridges the gap between student and teacher. The "I know how to do this" and "I can use this to help me understand what she is saying" attitude is clear and the smiles come immediately!
Music is often a very misunderstood subject. Many think only "the gifted" musicians can understand it. NOT TRUE!! Technology has been able to break down music in so many ways to make it truly accessible to all.
We are so excited to use our chromebooks to access "Quaver's Marvelous World" in particular because of all the interactive music games, world music lessons, and composer biographies just to name a few!”

Funded Aug 10, 2019My two 7th grade classes of 32 have been very busy ,thanks to you! Through this instrument making project they have been problem solving, sharing ideas, and making beautiful works of art.
My students were very excited to see all the colors of tape, construction paper, and glue guns (we can USE those?!!) that were waiting for them on the first day of music class. As they started creating, it was amazing to see all of the different patterns and styles that emerged. More importantly, they can't stop testing out the drums! They sound great!
Our next steps would be to break into groups of similar sounding instruments and perform rhythm patterns based on the type of instrument they are using. I can't wait to hear the performances!”

Funded Jun 2, 2017Words can not express how thankful we are for your donation towards our class set of ukuleles. When the children walked into my new room, with the new instruments lined up on the back wall,it was like Christmas in September! Although it took a few minutes for me to control the excitement, (all good!) it was well worth the wait. For I knew this would be a great year full of musical fun and learning. Our new adventure had begun.
Everyday the students come in and journal what the goals of the day are. Examples of our goals could be learning ukulele chords for a favorite song, linking technology with music on Ipads with our Quaver music program, or creating our own music. The children work alone or with a partner most days. Sometimes we even work in groups on a group project. What I enjoy most about the ukuleles is the pleasing sounds they make. Even group work is tolerable and pleasing. The children get a lot less distracted with the multiple ukulele sounds than they did last year with band instruments!
Our next step would surely be to create an original song as a solo or within a group. That is the ultimate goal! I hope we can reach that next level!”

Music Take Us Away! Healing After The Hurricane...
Funded Apr 29, 2013I want to thank you for all of the materials you donated after Hurricane Sandy. As you know, our school's infrastructure was severely flooded and we had to relocate to another school. Many of our students and staff were also relocated to other houses, towns, and even states. It was an awful time for us all and left us very worried about our present and even more, our future.
The colorful carpet and other supplies that you donated have brightened and enhanced a very dismal year. The children were so excited to see the vibrant colors of the bilingual rug and happy that our printer finally had some ink so we could print out some happy songs to sing. Many of my students lost personal items in the storm and saw their homes sunk in filth. It was very important for their school to provide some beauty and normalcy in their lives. It was a really nice moment to see their faces when they saw the brand new carpet I assure you!
On this rug, we perform on instruments and sing, so the students are able to work on their music literacy and performance. This particular lesson that I posted was entitled "Sioux Lullaby" from GamePlan 2, by Jeff Kriske and Randy Delelles. The objectives I was able to meet were learning repertoire from the Native American culture, learning about rhythm patterns, dynamics, and reading a musical score. I would assure you they had a lot of fun and were very satisfied with the final performance. If the technology allows us in the future, we will record these pieces for you so you can hear them!
Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Donors choose is just a wonderful idea!”
