I have been chosen as a pilot teacher to implement a blended learning model and am taking my co-teacher along for the ride! We teach at an urban choice school in the Dallas Independent School District that specializes in personalized learning. In a blended flex model, we will combine the best of direct instruction and online tools to give our scholars agency in how and what pace they learn the Math 6 curriculum. This involves whole-class activities and discussion, small group instruction, and using their Chromebooks to access videos and online learning platforms to practice skills both new and old. Scholars will have some choice in how they want to hone their skills, opportunities to take their learning to the next level, and remediation to fill in gaps. For all of this to work smoothly, our scholars need to have charged Chromebooks (provided by the district), headphones to access online learning, and ability to accomplish this without touchscreens or in the event their touchscreen need repair.
